Who has had 3 c-sections and how did you recover after the 3rd?

Will be having 3rd c-section in july and am starting to worry slightly about recovery.

I recovered very quickly after the first two - in fact quicker after the second as it was elective.

However lots of people keep doing the worried look thing when i say i'll be having another c-section and saying how dreadful the recovery will be this time.

Of course this isn't actually any people who've had 3 c-sections so am wondering if its a bit of doom and gloom.

So any experiences welcome.

Thanks!

I had 3 sections and tbh honest the recovery wasn't too bad - looking after my other children at the same time as recovering was the worst bit. However, instead of having a 4th section I had a VBAC instead. Have you thought about doing that instead? Usually far easier to look after 3 children when you haven't had major surgery and it's very likely that VBAC is an option for you.

I have had 3 and the recovery seemed to get easier the more I had, infact the 3rd was a breeze really.

I have had 3 - first one was emergency next two elective and recovered very quickly after number 2 and 3. Partly cos I hated being in hospital and with no3 wanted to get home to 3 yr old DD. Seem to remember hubby helping me in the shower and to get up off the sofa etc but nothing beats sleeping/recovering in your own bed.

I've had two sections - can I slightly thread hijack and ask mothers of 3 or more, with 3 sections under their, ahem, belt, if docs etc were all fine and dandy about you having another baby and another section?

My consultant gave me a bit of a stern talking to about getting pg again after two big babies, one emergency section and once elective which he says, was pretty tough going to get DS out.

It has put the topic of another child completely off the agenda...

Thanks for your responses. Don't want to do vbac for a variety of reasons.

My consultant is happy to do 3 c-sections although this pregnancy was a surprise anyway.

I had my 3rd section just over 2 weeks ago and my recovery has been great physically - better in fact than the previous two. I have to keep reminding myself to take things easy to be honest as I feel completely normal now.

Sycamoretree - the no. of sections you can / should have is really variable from person to person, it depends on your scar tissue and how thin the uterus has become etc. Trouble is they can only really tell this when they have you cut open doing the section! After no.2 I asked the consultant how things were looking and he said great, so I had no worries about having a third. This time my consultant said that the uterus was REALLY thin. She said a 4th baby could be problematic. However, when I asked if she would advise against me having another she said she wouldn't go that far, just that I'd have to be carefully monitored and the delivery would probably have to be a bit early. I don't think we'll go for a 4th, but it was interesting that despite a fairly poor prognosis, she was still positive about the idea of me having another baby if that's what I wanted. If you do want a 3rd, you should go back and have a serious talk to the consultant about risks.
