This happened to SIL.

She was inducuced at 12 days over, she had a reaction to the gel, she had constant contractions with no breaks for 20 hours, on examination nothing happened, she never got past 2 cms, she was pushing though

Babies heartbeat dropped dramatically, she has emergency c-section and baby was basically gone when he was taken out, it took a few minutes to revive him but hes fine now.

DS2 was due yesterday.

Im worried.

Can anyone give me their experiebnces for their 2nd children if the 1st was similar? (SIL wont be seeing this)

Thanks

I was talking to someone last night who went through exactly this! They had VBAC with dc2, she did need ventuose but other than that it all went swimmingly well. She was induced again second time as she had high BP and was prepared for CS just incase but delivered well and recovered quickly.

(sorry, should add this was a friend of mine not a random stranger I decided to swap birth stories with!)

Ah thats reasuring!

They said she will be on the drip if she needs to be induced this time so they can control the dosage better.

My story is a bit different, in that DS was the second child, and that it did not go on so long. Within 6 hours of being induced I was screaming for an epidural, due to the fact that the mw kept bumping up the meds so that the labour was just too much too fast. (Not just my opinion, my gynae confirmed this after the birth). Baby was in some distress and a crash section was performed.

DD was a much gentler induction and although I laboured long and had an epidural after around 9 hours, it was a lovely experience and a normal vaginal birth.

I can understand your SIL's fear, I was traumatised by DS's birth and took some time to get over it.

The good thing, this time round, is that they are prepared for the possibility IYSWIM. They will do what they think is required to make sure Mother and Child come through it well. It may mean they are quicker to move to section than other labours or whatever but they will get her through it. Try not to wory too much! Is she being induced now?
