Please tell me this can't go on for another 3 weeks...

I am 39wks pregnant and know that theoretically I could go to 42 before this baby comes. For 4 and a half long weeks I have had very strong, painful braxton hicks lasting for 2-3 hours. I am now snoozing every night in the rocking chair as I can't lie down and breath and my back and hips are very painful. Every time the braxton start I pray that this is it as I don't think I can go much longer on such little sleep. I honestly believe I will get more rest when baby gets here than I am getting now not to mention my poor ds who has to put up with a grumpy mummy who is huge and pretty useless at doing much with him anymore. Sorry just needed to get it out.

Hiya. Not going to be of much help as this didn't happen to me to the extent you are suffering. The only thing I can suggest is that you nap in the day as much as possible too.

What has your midwife said?

yawningmonster · 22/04/2009 06:56

she is as hopeful as I am that the increasing intensity of the braxton mean I will go sooner rather than later but. Thanks for replying

Sorry, but yes it could.

I had this with dd2 from 38wks to when i was induced at 40 + 9 as i couldn't stand it anymore.

Every afternoon from 12pm to 4pm i had pain braxton hicks/contractions.

AramintaMoondial · 22/04/2009 10:44

I get a lot of braxton Hicks contractions too - I have with all my pregnancies (this is my 4th) and have always had very quick births - I always tell myself that every BH contraction means one less painful contraction during labour!
Are you drinking plenty of water? I've heard that dehydration can make BH contractions worse.

AramintaMoondial · 22/04/2009 10:47

Also, have you tried getting up and moving about when the BH contractions start? That might make them develop into proper labour. Going up and down stairs is particularly good!

Monkeyandbooba · 22/04/2009 10:49

I had this for about 2 weeks before DS rocked up , in the end the actual labour was only 2.5hrs in length maybe because some work had been done already?

Gillyan · 22/04/2009 10:59

It'll be over beofre you know it and then you;ll probably miss being PG! I had had enough by about 35 wks but luckily for me DD came at almost 38 wks. I remember think OMG this could go on till 42 wks too. I know it seems like forever now but your LO will be here soon enough, goodluck x

hedgiemum · 22/04/2009 12:29

You are not alone in feeling you'll get more rest once the baby has arrived - I find having a tiny baby MUCH less tiring than pregnancy.

All you can do is try to do anything that takes your minds off of waiting. Rubbish advice, I know, sorry

redrobin · 23/04/2009 12:19

oh yawning monster i can sympathise entirely! i'm 38 + 5 and am soooo uncomfortable with braxton hicks, and twitchy legs, was still awake at 5.30am this morning! luckily have managed to pack DDs off to my mums this afternoon and can have a snooze. asked for a sweep at the midwife yesterday but the head isnt engaged yet, so she wouldnt...but she said oh well, we wouldnt let you go over another 4 weeks! i will go INSANE if that1s the case.

sending you sympathy!
