Anyone had an elective c section at Homerton? And/or a private room?

I had an emcs last time and although it went really well all things considered i had the typical not very good aftercare in the post natal ward, very little help with breastfeeding, washing etc. I managed ok but i was lucky enough to have successful breastfeeding and helpful visitors, plus one really nice ward assistant who took pity on me. I wondered if anyone had had a planned c section there and if it made any difference?

Also i didn't know you could pay for a private room - this would be a huge preference to 2 days and nights on the ward with no sleep!! Can you? How does it work?

Can i ask unyummy...why you want another C-section? Do you not want to experience a normal delivery?

It is possiblt to pay for a room, but you may have to do it quite early on.

In a word, no! I had an emcs after labouring for 21 hours, hated it but had a successful cs and ok recovery after leaving hospital. I now have a significant fear of birth and have decided to go with an elective after much consideration and reading up on the risks, I just want to know how homerton deal with planned cs and if the aftermath will be easier to deal with if planned.

Even if planned, there will always be risks. Just because one person may have a good time there, doesnt mean another will. Id try and have some councilling to get rid of the fear you have. You will find that after a normal birth you can get up and do the things you want other than having to stay in bed resting.

Chellesgirl - I've read all the info and have made my mind up after a lot of consideration. By the same logic just because some people have a "normal" birth does not mean that i will second time around! I know what my chances are, the pros and cons of each, and i have decided that i would rather have a planned than a vbac with the trauma i had last time and a possible emcs. I have experienced homerton with an emcs, have experienced recovery from an emcs and i would like to know what it's like to have a planned one there, not to be persuaded out of it!

Ok sorry. I wasnt trying to persuede you out of it, if thats how you feel im sorry. Im just a great believer in Natural births even after CS. but you have made up your mind and this is fair, what you want. Ill leave you to see if anyone else can help you with your Qs.

Why dont you visit the Homerton NhS Website, and there is a chat part, where people put thier opinions on about the different services the hospital offers.
