Elective C-Sec at 38 weeks - should I insist on waiting til 39?

I have been told I am having an elective at 38wks but I am now starting to think that I should wait until 39 to ensure the best outcome for the baby. I am concerned about breathing difficulties etc.

Its a bit tricky as I am in Spain and it seems is quite normal for them to do an elective once you get to 38 wks, so not sure how sympathetic they´ll be....

Any advice gratefully received!

It all depends on the reason for the C section. If it might be dangerous for you to go into labour, or dangerous for the baby to stay in longer than 38 weeks, then stick with 38 weeks. If not, the later the better imo.

Maybe here isn't the place to say that I am really excited to have been offered my elective at 38+1 then? .

Just thinking that not having the last 2 weeks of waddling in the heat will be fab.

Hoping the baby might scrape in at 8lb too.

Had both mine at exactly 38 weeks - one natural, one planned c-section as would have been dangerous to go in to labour. Both absolutely fine, no problems at all. Remember 37 weeks is classed as full term and 35 week babies can be fine too.
I too was pleased to have mine at 38 weeks and miss the last 2 weeks!

It is known that a good deal of brain development still occurs in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Is there a medical reason that would prevent you from having it done at 39 weeks? What is the risk if you were to go into labour first and then they did the surgery?
