You will have to check with your own hospital, they all have their own rules. When I had DD I was only allowed 1 Birthing partner, but I know another woman thre had two. Your age shouldn't matter!

Moosy · 08/04/2009 10:01

Your age is irrellevant to your rights, and don't you let them forget it!!

I was allowed 2 (DH and my mum) when I had DD1 is hospital but I don't know if that's standard, you'll have to ask your hospital I think.

I personally wouldn't choose my mum, but only because she's so sensitive i don't think she'd have coped, she gets upset when I have a migraine.
I was 18 when I was pg with dd and dh was petrified during the birth and therefore not much help but we were both pleased he was there IYSWIM. However I go into a kind of zone in labour so would've been happy to go it alone second time round.
I also wouldn't have wanted too many people there, it was crowded enough with me,dh, midwife and a student.

I once had 4 people with me .

Good luck.

My friend had her mother and her dp (partner) as birth partners. (not the same hospital as you though)

As others have said, your age doesn't matter. If the hospital say no initially, and you really do want your mum and boyfriend there, then put it in writing to them and keep trying. As long as neither of them get in the way, I don't think that 2 birth partners is unreasonable.

Check with the hospital what their policy is. When I had DS I could have had 2 birthing partners but chose just to have DP. With DD hospital policy was just one birthing partner.

StarlightMcEggzie · 08/04/2009 10:20

Where are you giving birth? I didn't understand.

It is usual to have 2 birth partners in a vaginal delivery, 1 birth partner for a c/section and as many as you like for home birth.

But, you'll have to check with your hospital.

I had 3, but only 2 overnight (no room for more, and quite uncomfortable; #3 went home to sleep) and only 1 was allowed into theatre.
