Elective c-section which date should I 'choose'

Hi Ladies

Thank-you to everyone who has posted on my past thread about what to pack for hospital post c-section (you'll be glad to know I have a stock of 'big pants')

I am seeing my consultant at 3 today to confirm my c-section, for those of you who haven't seen my past posts, labour went rather wrong with ds1 (this is ds2) & both of us ended up very sick, he was in nicu/scbu for over a week, I had a blood transfusion etc etc.. I have been admitted in premature labour 3 times and this pregnancy has not been fun at all.
I have known all along the consultants would rather I have a c-section, and now this new little one is breech so it seems like it's going to be that way anyway. They aren't sure they want to attempt ECV - and neither am I

My original consultants dates make me 36weeks, though myself, my GP & midwife & scans, all make me more like 37+3.
I know this is not a great difference. Due to complications I now have a new consultant, who is willing to go by these dates if I want to. And try & avoid me labouring naturally.

So, getting past the rambly post, my question is:

Would you book your elective at 39 weeks by the first consultants dates or 39 weeks by the new consultants dates?
It'd be done on a Wednesday as this is my consultants operating day, so either 22nd or 29th of April.

Thanks!

Hi, is there any reason why you can not go into spontaneous labour and then be admitted for a c-section? It is much better on you and especially the baby to be born by c-section once the body has started the natural labour process? I guess it depends on your risks? Have you tried Moxibustion to try to turn the baby naturally? It is a chinese herbal technique that works on the bodies meridians to encourage the baby to turn of it's own accord, it is harmless to both of you and none evasive. I'm not sure where you are in the country, but I know that the holistic birthing centre in cheshire run a private breech clinic where they use moxi and have fantastic success rates! Anything is worth at go I say - www.holisticbirthingcentre.co.uk; good luck with your appointment today. :-)

IF you get the choice I would suggest going for the later date, for some babies even the difference between 38 and 39 weeks can be the difference between going to scbu or not.

Tis a bit of a shock to suddenly be dragged out when you are not expecting it.

I would go for the later date. If you do start to labour then they will do the C section anyway, but your baby will be that little bit bigger if you are further on.

Hi

Just to say that we have booked the later date, so 3 weeks tomorrow!
Decided if he was 'ready' any earlier then I would go into labour. I don't want to risk him coming out too soon because of a decision I have made.

I was worried that I'd get who ever was on call if I laboured early but my consultant was lovely & it will be him doing the operation even if it's 4am on a Sunday . Due to being a small unit each consultant does their own elective sections even if they're early, any true emergency sections get whoever is on call..

Now I guess I really should get my hospital bag packed!!

How exactly is it better to have abdominal surgery when having contractions?

I'm curious because possibly will have a c-section soon.

I think it's more to do with the baby hopefully being better prepared for it's arrival.
I've been told to call the labour ward as soon as I show signs of definate labour & they will get the team ready, so by the time I arrive & am in theatre it would have been a few hours maximum. Plus if my waters broke they'd operate without me having had any contractions.

I don't want my baby to come out any earlier than needs be, I'd rather know he's ready & have the c-section as late as possible.
