hi was with a lady as a birthing partner who recieved 12 VE.s from 8 different people over a 12 hour period.. i thought that all werent needed and caused the woman pain.. she went on to labour naturally..why do proffessionals think its their right to have a feel.

I insisted on having mine. Like Starlight I don't look like I'm in proper labour and I was concerned about -
a) being sent home
b) having a swollen cervical lip that was holding back the second stage

But that was it - two examinations and I asked for both. I was in a birthing centre though, and the midwives had a very hands-off approach. For which I was very grateful, I do much better when I'm allowed to get on with it.

I've had 2 vaginal births and no VEs. With dc2 I asked for one and I think the MW was stalling for time - washing hands and asking if I was sure etc - because she knew I didn't need one. DS arrived about 4 mins later!

I had approx. 15-20 per pregnancy.
2 Pregs.

I had 2 VE, first when I came to hospital and second just before my DD was born.

it sounds as if midwives need to listen and look more..lillymo your story sounds a little distressing.. hope all is well now with little one.

it sound as if every one is different,,, and therfore labours differently.. midwives should be observing and reading other signs instead..

We really must stop meeting up like this! Especially as I am now officially over my birth experiences.
