Hi

Had ds on Monday after a very traumatic one hour labour with ventouse and episiotomy.

I have noticed tonight, that I have 3 lumps around my bum hole about the size of a small grape, no bleeding, but they are very sore, and tender to the touch.

Cant work out if they are just swellings from the trauma, or piles

Have never ever had piles, or sypmtoms of piles during this or my other pregnancy..

Could it simply be swellings caused by the repair?

Please come and reassure me please.

Thanks

has your MW checked your perineum? get her to have a look tomorrow, try not to touch , have a salt bath and keep the area clean and dry

everything will be swollen and bruised and feel different after an epi and instrumental delviery

congratulations on the safe arrival of DS

Hi (congrats btw)
Yes she checked the area this morning and said it looked fine, just very bruised, but I only noticed the lumps tonight when I dared look in the mirror!!

I know i will be sore and swollen, but why the bloody lumps near the bum

Please tell me there not piles, they dont just appear do they?

piles can appear as a result of labour. MW can (I think) presecribe magic cream for them, which will help (if not dr can)
there's a special cushion you cansit on, called a valley cushion, NCT used to hire them out, so you don't put pressure on the sore bits.
and congratulations!

macherie · 01/04/2009 20:48

Sorry, I'm no help about the lumps, probably piles I'd guess, but I had to come and sympathise over the ventouse/ episiotomy. I had the same with my first baby. He will be 11 on Sunday, but I still wince at the thought of it.

Please get yourself one of those cushions that looks like a doughnut, it will make a world of difference to your quality of life. And lots of lukewarm salty baths to help you heal.

Many congratulations on your ds - he was worth it

piles

they are awful, aren't they?

here's how to rapidly get rid of them:

ice pack on your bits

bite open a few vitamin E capsules and liberally smear the oil directly on the piles. it will help reabsorb the blood inside.

soak a gauze pad in witch hazel (keep bottle in fridge for extra cooling) and tuck around the piles. your pad and panties will keep the gauze pad in place.

good luck and congratulations!

would mw not have spotted them this morning?

Do piles not bleed? these def do not bleed

I had piles after childbirth. They felt exactly like you describe and they went away pretty quickly with no action required on my part.

I think it was just a natural result of all that trauma down below..

mrsgboring · 01/04/2009 20:57

Piles don't necessarily bleed. Your mw might not have thought them worthy of comment, since so many people have them after delivery.

If it is piles, I think you're not meant to sit on a rubber ring / doughnut cushion as it directs more blood to the buggers.

jollyjoanne · 01/04/2009 21:12

Hi Lilymolly I'd say piles.

TMI WARNING! Not for those of a more sensitive nature.

I had a cut and forceps delivery and was quite numb down there for a while but once I got the feeling back I immediately wished I hadn't becos I had one enormous pile and it stung like mad to sit down.

Piles don't always bleed, they can just be lumps, this is all mine was.

My advice is if you want to be sure ask the midwife to take a look, mine did offer but I politely refused as I've had them before. Secondly, get some anusol or other such cream, this helps with the pain and any itching and helps them go down. Thirdly, don't get constipated this makes them worse. Fourthly, I can suggest using some baby wipes or very soft paper on them when needed. And fifthly, if you can face it try to gently push the lumps back in to your bottom as they shrink this should be easier.

madlentileater · 01/04/2009 21:19

yes, the rubber ring thing = causes oedema, hence valley cushion, releives pressure without restricting blood flow...afraid I can't describe it without waving my hands around, ask the mw or contact nct.

surreygirl · 01/04/2009 21:35

Hi LM, Sounds like piles. I had them too after ventouse and episiotomy...no bleeding but so sore... walked like a cowboy

I found salt water baths twice a day with natural seasalt was fab along with arnica tablets to help swelling... and using baby swips to clean up after going to the loo. Oh and agree with JollyJ re not getting constipated!!!

Mine went away after a couple of weeks. Best get your MW to check. Good luck and congrats on DS!
