Has anyone given birth in a car?

A friend of mine did the other day! Having been turned away twice from hospital (second baby).

Her dh delivered the baby while on phone to 999 giving him instructions.

OMG!!!

But surely a nice homebirth would be safer than the back of the car???

my sister was in hospital and told she had a few hours to go, they gave her a sleeping tablet and things suddenly speeded up. Midwifes were racing her down the corridor while she was giving birth, the head was already out before they got to the labour ward. Baby was 8lb 9 oz and she had no pain relief. apparently it hurt so much she was trying to push the baby back in with her own hands.

A good friend delivered her own DS2 on the bathroom floor only 10 minutes after the midwife examined her; found that she was 2cm and suggested that my friend should make her way to hospital in a 'few hours' should the contractions continue to get stronger and closer together. She was not in the least bit upset with the midwife as she understood that these things can happen but she was furious with her dh who actually ran out of their flat looking for someone/anyone to help out rather than trying to help himself. Especially funny as he is usually very calm and collected!

Cousin was crowning as she walked into the hospital and was told to sit and wait her turn at admissions. Thankfully she had the presence of mind to lift her nightgown as her ds2 head was already visible and the clerk who had told her to wait wound up catching the baby behind her desk...

Not quite as bad as in a car though I suppose. I really feel for your friend.

with ds 2 (4th baby and ds1 was very quick, only just got thru hospital door and he was born with my trousers round my ankles) i was told to come in in plenty of time. got sent home at about 3am and ended up delivering ds2 on the bathroom floor by myself at 5am!

another quick one here. nearly got in the car but thankful ly decided again st it. dh did the catching with mobile phone under his chin. wrapped her in my lovely fluffy white dressing gown which never recovered
