hi!

i wonder if i'm the only person who found entonox useless in labour? i found it had no pain relieving quality at all.

i keep reading of people who get quite high on it and feel 'out of control' and i just cant help wondering if the supply was faulty with me and i was just breathing regular-type air...thoughts anyone??

Had only G&A for two of my dcs, you really have to breathe it in very deeply to get the effect, then it does work great.

Sadminster - I'm so sorry. Cannot imagine how awful that could be.

They say it works better for smokers and ex-smokers as they now how to inhale it properly.
I loved it, it took the edge off my contractions whether that was because of the actually G&A or placebo-wise I don't care!

I was so busy concentrating on not sounding like a man when I spoke on gas and air that it did help distract me.

Now, ask me if it stopped labour being so sodding painfuil than the answer is a resounding NO and I stopped using in in both labours when I can to the pushing bit as I wanted to concentrate because I didn't want to tear (ironic really when I ended up with an ECS with DD! Ha).

Gutted for you sadminster

I found it fantastic. I was high as a bloody KITE, thought I was in a nightclub. The pain was still happening, but it was happening to "HER", not me. I just happened to be able to feel it

Horrible stuff.

Made me vomit sooooo much. Dh said it was like a scene from The Exorcist. Was expecting to see my head start to rotate next. Didn't help that I'd eaten Brains Faggots beforehand either.

i felt it got me to that 'drunk' stage whereby nothing bothered me...not the godawful midwives, not the complete uselessness of my birth plan, not the two incisions being made in a rather intimate place.

that was after i'd thrown up a few times, had to get used to the stuff.

also made my skin glow luminescently in the post birth photos.

Totally useless

Have an epidural, why suffer

I was told to breathe it in like my life depended on it. I did as I was told. Every contraction I passed out, literally! It honestly did take away all the pain for that brief time, until the next one came. It was fantastic stuff.

Having said that, I am almost completely teetotal because I don't like the taste of alcohol, so my threshold will be almost zero.

Yep, it's good when you're not in pain. I loved sucking it up just before being stitched.

hi all,

thanks for all those. i've never heard the thing where its not sposed to take the pain away, just make you not care about it. i was def expecting some kind of small impact on the pain.

at least it did make me breathe properly during contractions which i think helped the pain more.

i also found pethidine crap, like having a veeeeerry small glass of wine...

glass? I's sat a veeeeery small sip of wine, before it went through the fermenting procees, with the added disadvantage of being made to stay on the bed in case you fell over . Fat chance.

LOL roland - I remember actually saying that when I was in labour - I found it removed the pain completely until the last hour or so (as well as making me think I was a stand-up comedienne).

It it didn't help me focus like others say it did - they made me put it down when I had a ventouse so that I would focus on my pushing better (ouch )...
