With dd we took a cd player into hosp and had musice like Dido, eva cassidy etc as far as I remember, and a relaxation cd i got free from a magazine ages ago but which is a really nice one. I remember the music - all stuff we were fond of at the time (Did's 'thankyou' was our first dance wedding song) - setting such a great mood. Haven't bought any music for ages and want to start getting some together for babe - due in July. Any ideas?

Norah Jones - it kept on going on repeat until I screamed "Will someone turn that f*ing cd off" although now when I hear it I go all sentimental and remember that special time when our daughter came into the world.....

Someone put the radio on when I was having dd2 and she was born to 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco' (Or as dh has it 'I Left My Hat in Fat Sam's Disco.'.) I went to SF for the first time last year and bought dd a cute T-shirt with 'I left....' on it.

tabitha · 19/04/2005 14:18

I made up two 'birthing CDs' (God, that sounds naff!) for when dd3 was born - basically just lots of songs I liked. Can't remember exactly what was playing when she was born but it might have been 'Bat out of Hell' by Meatloaf
When ds was born, the midwives couldn't get any music channels on the radio so he ended up being born with Radio 4's cricket commentary in the background.

To be soppy for a moment, when dd was born, the first thing I heard on the radio (played past midnight by those lovely midwives working night shit who want to pretend they are working during the day and the mums should really be awake) was Robbie Williams singing "She's the One". To this day, it makes the tears pour down my face.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Sorry. I mean to write shift

The night my ds was born I heard that Eric Clapton song Tears in heaven that he wrote for his little boy and I've never even been able to listen to the first couple of notes since without crying. In fact for a couple of days after the birth it kept popping into my head and suddenly I'd start crying, much to the discomfort of all the visiting relatives!!

Lonelymum · 19/04/2005 14:37

I was the same with She's the One. I went out and bought the whole album just so I could listen to the one track (although I quite like the whole album now)

We might be going with Deva Premal - hippy dippy sacred yoga music. REALLY nice album to listen to.

Torn was played on the hospital radio several times during DS1s birth, along with Robie Williams' Angels and DH swears that he heard The First Cut Is THe Deepest.

bundle · 19/04/2005 15:28

dd1 came out to Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong, just happened to be on the radio. I had a g/a for dd2..

SoupDragon · 19/04/2005 15:29

The only song I remember from DS2's birth was Simply Red sinving "every time we say goodbye" which came on the radio when the midwife ad gone and DH hadgone to get my bag from the car. Just me and DS2 having a feed

popsycal · 19/04/2005 15:30

i gave birth to barry white

bundle · 19/04/2005 15:34

popsy, did you have stitches??

popsycal · 19/04/2005 15:35

i know lol

good claim to fame

goodness knows why the midwife put a barry white cd on

ds2 was born to the sound of me shouting for drugs and told it was too late

SkiBunnyFlummy · 19/04/2005 15:35

'Push it baby one more time'

piffle · 19/04/2005 15:40

damian rice, not that I ever am in labour long enough to get a cd player but that's what I would like... next time

bonym · 19/04/2005 15:46

I had loads of CDs picked out and neatly stacked by the CD player in readiness - all relaxing, classical stuff, but when it came down to it, once the first CD had finished (Yo Yo Mar plays Ennio Morricone), I was in no state to choose anything else and tbh wasn't reallly bothered by that time. I would never have heard anything anyway, as I was screaming too loud .
