iv heard that majority of women go over by at least a week with their first baby..

Is this true? how far before or after EDD did your first baby come?

12 days late, the longest 12 days of my life!

BlameItOnTheBogey · 09/03/2009 16:03

My first one came on my due date but I think that's pretty unusual and I've heard that in the rest of Europe first pregnancies are counted as being 41 weeks long.

Lulumama · 09/03/2009 16:04

i think it is more realistic and statistically more likely to deliver after your EDD and closer to 41 weeks.. i think only 5 % of women deliver on their due date. and a normal full term pregnancy is anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks

BakewellTarts · 09/03/2009 16:04

I didn't 10 days early with DD1...I do remember thinking that this couldn't be labour as it was too early.

DD2 was also early although only 7 days this time.

dilemma01 · 09/03/2009 16:04

1ST pregancy, 9 days early
2nd pregnancy (twins) 7 weeks early.

CMOTDibbler · 09/03/2009 16:05

5 weeks early for my first successful pregnancy

ThatsNotMyPirate · 09/03/2009 16:05

I was 8 Days over with DS.

KingRolo · 09/03/2009 16:06

4 days early with dd1.

Stretch · 09/03/2009 16:06

1st preg - 6 days late.
2nd preg - 2 days late.
3rd preg - 3 days early!

I was 10 days early and I was my mums first. Although I don't think the dates were as accurate back then!

mum2b09 · 09/03/2009 16:15

Dd 38+6

belgo · 09/03/2009 16:17

dd1 one day over
dd2 six days over
ds six days over.

PestoMonster · 09/03/2009 16:49

I had dd1 five days early.

SobranieCocktail · 09/03/2009 16:53

Both of mine were 8 days late.

georgimama · 09/03/2009 17:01

DS was born at 41 weeks + 1 day (so 8 days late). I had been in labour for 36 hours by then - actually, that last part was unhelpful, ignore that .

I doubt they would induce you after 10 days unless there is any complicating factor which gives some urgency to getting baby out.

Most MWs would discuss doing a sweep at around 40 weeks + 7 days (or a couple of days later) and you may be induced around 42 weeks, although there are many MNers who have argued successfully for no intervention and delivered later than 42 weeks. The fear is that the placenta may start to fail the baby - but this is not common.

roomforthree · 09/03/2009 17:06

41 weeks exactly.

mum2b09 · 09/03/2009 17:07

where im from you are given a pus 10 appointment and induced within 48 hrs of that appointment i dont know how long they will let you go round here ..

firstontheway · 09/03/2009 17:08

I don't think you have to be induced at any point, unless there's a valid medical reason. If you don't want an induction, you can consent to extra checks when you go over 42 weeks, eg you may have to visit the midwife every couple of days to check baby's HB.

I'm being induced on my due date, but because I'm high risk, and I'm happy for them to do so. Am also booked in for a sweep tomorrow (wiull be 38+4) so wish me luck! Am hoping I'll be in the 40% that give birth before their due date!

CoteDAzur · 09/03/2009 17:09

In France, "full term" is counted as 41 weeks.

ShowOfHands · 09/03/2009 17:10

8 days "early".

I think it's better to think that a normal pregnancy is 37-42 weeks and avoid all this talk of 'due date' and 'overdue'. There's nothing like putting pressure on yourself.

puffylovett · 09/03/2009 17:15

18 days over

lazybones · 09/03/2009 17:19

DD +5 days,
DS + 12 days (induced)
I was booked in for a homebirth with ds, there was no way the community midwives were coming out after +12 days so I felt there was no point refusing the induction as either way I was going to have to go to hospital anyway. And in the end it was a really quick induction - 3 hours! This isn't normal though, it was my second baby and I do have them quick!

I like the bit of advice that you should always add a week to your due date when people ask so you don't get hassled when your actual date arrives. I also heard somewhere (no idea if it's true) that only 4% of babies arrive on their due date...

Claire236 · 09/03/2009 17:44

36+5

lizziemun · 09/03/2009 18:30
