I'm 39 weeks pregnant, this is my 2nd baby, (my first was a week early) and I'm so excited about having this baby that I want the process to start now!!! Besides pineapple, curries and long walks (i'm way too tired for that!), what else can I do to get this baby out. Oh and having sex is totally out of the question - I'd prefer to have a drug-free birth!

I have never used it myself but I understand Clary Sage oil can help, unsure as to why tho! good luck

Oh Georgiaplus1, I do feel for you, but and you will hate me for this, but walk, walk, walk. When that fails, dance. Apart from that the only thing I can suggest is to plan to do something you really want to do. I.e. a lovely meal out with friends or a visit somewhere. I am sure baby2 will make an appearance then! Good luck! I went over by 7 days with my second so I know how you feel. Have you not even had a twinge yet?

Hi Supergluebum (love the name!), I had a session of reflexology this morning and she said that my perturitury gland in my big toe was still hard reflecting that my cervix isn't soft or ready for birth! She also said that walking was the best solution so tomorrow is walking day!!! I'm on a MISSION!

I'm also going to look into Clary Sage oil - I've never heard of that before...

Thanks guys!

I used Clary Sage, and although it didn't have an immediate effect I loved the smell and it definitely triggers contractions almost instantly (although not necessarily actual labour). It's also called "natural gas and air" and is supposed to help alleviate pain. I had some burning in an oil burner throughout labour and a few drops on a tissue when I wanted a bif sniff

(Oh and I did have a pain relief free labour

My second baby was 12 days late (agghh!!)and although I hate to say this I just thnk they come when they are ready...........HOWEVER........my sister (a GP by the way , so you'd think reliable on these matters!) agreed it was a good paln for me to take castor oil. She suggested two spoonfuls. Dutifully I did as told. 5 mins later she calls back to say, don't take 2, just one.Too bloody late!! DD arrived VERY quickly 2 hours later. So, it DID work but I have since heard that it is dangerous and midwives strongly advise against it. Good luck with yours. x

Righty-ho, I"m about to stuff my swollen feet into my shoes and get walking to the chemist to see if they have Clary Sage! I may even break into dance on the way home (I'll try anything!) ....god imagine if it does work immediately! Maybe I should have a sleep first...... and an ice cream too as no more junk food once this baby is born. Actually I fancy a pizza - a spicy pizza, then ice cream, then the chemist, then a sleep........

OK - the reality of actually HAVING a baby is now scary. Maybe I should just be patient!

Oh good luck.

I tried everything before recently having DD3, but you know what, babies only come when they are ready. All the other stuff just keeps us occupied whilst we are waiting.

My advice would be just try and forget the whole baby business (impossible?), and then it will happen!

nip twiddling - lulumama suggested it when I couldn't get DS2 out and it did an impressive job - good luck!
