Elective: but what if labour starts??

I have an elective booked for 3 days before due date. Had an emergency section with dd day before due date, but waters and labour started 5 days before I was due.

Doc at clinic said if it starts they take over, but is that then an emergency c-section? At what point do they take over?

Any wisdom please! I am already petrified, and this is adding to the old stress levels.

Firstly, try to relax, don't worry about what hasn't happened yet (easier said than done I know)

Secondly, if you go into labour you call the hospital straight away and they bring you in for a section. It is normally done straight away, so not classed as emergency and it would be treated like an elective section.

Hi,

This happened to me - I was 5 weeks early. I phoned the hospital and was told to go straight in asap and was given a section that morning.

Technically it would be an emergency section, because you would be in labour, but it shouldnt be too much of a rush or a panic, you would just go in, and they would do the section.

It would be classed as a Scheduled C/S or at least thats the terminology used where I work.

As others have said you would go in, be monitored and then given a C/S.

Lots of luck, let us know how you get on.

Thanks ladies. Just started maternity leave at 36 weeks and have now got the time and headspace to start actually thinking about what's going to happen and get in a tizz about it. I'm hoping I'll remember some newborn care stuff soon!
