Anyone had two Caesareans 15 months apart?

DS is 9 months old.
New baby is due in August this year...

I had a CS with DS and would prefer to do that again...

What are the pros / cons of CS / VB so close after a CS?

Have tried searching previous messages, but can't seem to find anything related!

thanks, HM

Had two 17.5 months apart if that's any use.

T'was fine.

I was told that the scar is completely healed after six months. This was in the context of me not wanting a VBAC with No2 as I thought it was too soon after the CS.

I was worried about the scar as my sister had had suspected/possible scar rupture during her VBAC (5 years after CS), although she had nothing "fixed" postnatally so presumably nothing did happen.

a lot depends on why you had a c.s the first time and whether it would recur

from a recovery point of view, you are often up and about much quicker with a v.b and you will have a 15 month old toddler to look after too

pros and cons really depend on lots of personal factors too

TheMadHouse · 07/03/2009 13:44

15 months between my two.

First was a crash section, so large scar etc, 2nd time I was hoping for a VBAC, but owing to complications ended up having a section at 37 weeks.

It was fine, I was driving 2 weeks post section and fully back to normal after about 4 weeks, although I realise this is not the norm (I heal pretty well).

Everything will be fine, if you have any corncerns discuss it with the midwifes and the consultant. I think the complication are more4 to do with a VBAC rather than another section

Forgot to say congratulations!

Also pros for having 2nd C-section:

  • You know when you are having your baby and can plan childcare accordingly. The anaesthetist I had for DC2 said that's why his wife chose a second CS and it was one of the main factors for my decision as I had no one who could come in an emergency.

Cons

  • You can't drive for some time
  • You shouldn't really carry your older toddler around (though I did and was fine)
  • You are generally less active after a CS, as opposed to a VBAC that has gone well, so are less able to do things with older child
  • Elective c-sections can cause breathing problems. They did with DD - not serious but of course I was worried sick

More cons than pros there but the biggest pro for me was not having to go through a labour again - I was terrified the first time that my baby wouldn't survive the birth as he was very big. And I knew that if he was born normally I would be very damaged down below. It was a fabulous moment when they said I was going to have a caesarean.

Thanks. I would much prefer another CS - as my first one was lovely.

I hardly have a scar and will try and use the same consultant surgeon again.

I do like the idea of planning the birth, as I don't have much support I can call on at very short notice.

thanks for the advice.

14 months apart both emergencies and was fighting fit very quickly.... downside (the only but a big one) was I couldn't pick up DS1 who wasn't walking and it was heart breaking....

Carrie06 · 07/03/2009 21:20

Mine will be 14 mths apart. Had one at the end of last Jan at 28+6 and will be having one in 18 days at 39+2. Haven't had a single problem so far. Scar is tucked right under bump (can't see it any more) and haven't had any of the itching/stretching that I've heard others mention when pregnant after a previous section. Very little pelvic pain too......just feel like I've been pregnant for a couple of years. The consultant didn't mention any pros/cons etc apart from recommending another section because of previous one and big baby. Cx

SIL has had them 13 months apart - Jan 2008 and Feb 2009. I'm seeing her on tuesday, so I can let you know how she's doing.

She's arranged a birthday party for her eldest (who'll be 4) for next saturday so she can't be feeling too bad!

You know Britney Spears WW?

2 c/s 15 months apart here - first was emergency c/s and took a good few weeks to get over - second elective c/s and was up, about and well much quicker.

Would just like to say regarding the pro above "You know when you are having your baby and can plan childcare accordingly." It doesn't always work like that - my waters broke 2 days before planned c-section so you may still need to call someone at short notice!
