I am due in a few weeks time with my second DC. I had a very successful hypnobirth in the pool last time for my first (2 years ago) and reasonably confident it will work again. Last time I only really listened to the affirmations and did the relaxation due I guess to time and other impacts on it. This time I have concentrated on the CD and the breathing techniques Any other HBers want to share with me what particularly worked for them or didn't? Posts really appreciated.I love hearing good birth stories!

I listened to a few script rainbow CD to start with and then just concentrated on the breathing when things spice up.

I'm a HypnoBirthing teacher as well as a HypnoBirthing mum. The things that really work for me are:

  1. Affirmations (before and during labour)
  2. peaceful calm environment (for me at home)
  3. trust in myself, my midwives and my husband
  4. slow breathing
  5. a conditioned smell (for me neroli)

Have you thought about going back to your practitioner for a quick refresher (and possibly a fear release?) I offer my clients refreshers for £30 for 2hrs and it seems to really help set them on track again.

Good luck, hope it all goes beautifully, I'm sure it will :-)

Should also add, I'm always happy for repeat clients to sit in on group classes for free as a refresher, perhaps your practitioner might offer this? even if it's only one class so you can just spend a couple of hours absorbing confidence!

Thanks to you both and ChildrenChildren. I was just thinking before I went on the PC about asking my HB teacher for a top up sesssion and to check I am doing everything right so I think I will do that. It can only help. Thanks again.

I had a smooth and amazing first birth at home nearly 7 months ago.
I was listening to a MP3 downloaded from blissful birth.co.uk when i was about 32 weeks pregnant.
During the birth i was totally focus on my breathing. I also try to relax my muscles when i was aware that they were tensing as i wanted to minimise any stress that could affecting myself and my baby.
At no point was i thinking about the affirmations at all! I do believe that all my evenings spent listening to the affirmations and hypnobirth techniques has helped immensely to relax and have confidence with my mind and body. The most important thing is to eradicate the fear factor. Even if there is complication during birth it won't help if we anticipate the negative consequence. Go with the flow and trust that everything will be alright.. somehow.
