had a sweep yesterday and had on/off cons all evening. decided to get some proper sleep and woke up at 5 this morning with contractions again.

so far they are about 40secs long and every 8-10 mins so now i'm up, sitting on my ball and going thru my list of things to get done if this is it.

are they supposed to get worse if you move around etc? that's a good thing right?

positive vibes please!!!

Ring hospital and tell them they are 5 mins apart but you want to wait until 3. They'll tell you if they're full

good lujck!

Lemontart · 24/02/2009 10:11

Good luck for you both x

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/02/2009 10:23

Put masking tape over the sticky pads - it's easier to get off skin than other tape.

Good luck!

Mirry71 · 24/02/2009 10:30

well rang the maternity helpline - it's not working...(!) then rang the hospital...harassed midwife said ring back when its 3 mins apart and the pains are bad. When i said they were quite painful she said "oh they'll only get worse'
obv true but...thanks!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/02/2009 10:37

How very helpful of the MW - not!

Just go in when you feel you need to, it is unlikely they will turn you away.

twocutedarlings · 24/02/2009 10:38

not very helpful atall Mirry!! if you want go then do so!! if you are managing with your tens then wait and see how things go, have you tried turning the tens up a little.

SnowlightMcKenzie · 24/02/2009 10:39

Mirry That's made me quite cross actually, and fwiw it isn't necessarily true either.

You need to feel confident in your own assesment of your comfort, confident in the mws and their support, confident that you are being and will be taken seriously.

For that reason though, do try to delay going in.

Have you got any breathing techniques?

If not, try this:

When next cx comes, breathe out very slowly, and the breathe in very slowly and try to get to count quickly to 24, making sure your shoulders are down. Then breath out for 24.

The contraction will then be over, and you can going into the next one knowing it will last for but a breath.

Mirry71 · 24/02/2009 10:49

yes completely agree snowlight - bah this is exactly what i don't want from midwives! so am sticking here at home.
Am going to try yr 24 trick for next cx!

EffiePerine · 24/02/2009 12:48

Any news?

me23 · 24/02/2009 12:50

I was just about to ask that aswell, I reckon they've both gone in to hospital!

Mirry71 · 24/02/2009 12:50

no - basically after i rang the hospital, my contrctions went down to 7 mins between them, although they are more painful and lasting more than a minute. Sigh. So sitting here watching loose women

BananaSkin · 24/02/2009 12:52

Oooh, how exciting. Hoping you're having a great delivery as I type!

EffiePerine · 24/02/2009 12:52

At least you aren't stuck in a hospital room

remember to eat and drink - some places don't like you eating once you're admitted and you need to keep your energy levels up. Oh, and remember to pee (sorry, but it is important!)

Lizzylou · 24/02/2009 12:56

Best of luck to both of you, am sat here feeling all nostalgic and broody now.

Gas and air is wonderful stuff.

How is it going now Mirry?

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 24/02/2009 12:58

ooooo 2 on the go - how exciting!

warthog · 24/02/2009 13:04

some things that helped me:

try to relax through the contractions. bit of a contradiction i know! but it really helped me to envisage waves on a beach taking the pain away. what a cliché! but helped me.

also, every time a contraction comes, it helped me to rock my hips from side to side, to sort of get it moving.

are you walking around and staying mobile?

EffiePerine · 24/02/2009 13:06

blowing raspberries also strangely effective - top tip from someone on my antenatal thread, labour rooms across the country were then ringing to the sound of

Mirry71 · 24/02/2009 13:32

hahaha will try. am going to try to walk around more too

dinkystinky · 24/02/2009 13:36

Good luck to both of you Newsocks and Mirry.

Mirry - try sitting upright on birth ball (if you have one) and rocking hips around - will encourage baby down and poss make contractions abit more effective. Also, Starlight's trick is great - another good trick is to try chanting (very grounding - just saying "O" for as long as you can over and over - will help relax your face and muscles). Good luck!
