When do you call the hospital?

Forgot to ask my midwife and I'm not seeing her again until Tues (am 39 + 1) - if I go into labour, at what point do I call the hospital? I know they like you to wait until your cx are about 5 mins apart (unless waters have gone) before you go in, but do I need to call them before that?

If in doubt give them a call - they can usually tell over the phone if you need to come in or not

I think the general rule is cx 5 mons apart/waters leaking/bleeding but it also depends if you have any complications

So do you wait until they are 5 mins part and then call and say you're coming straight in? I was just wondering if you needed to call earlier to give them a heads up?

From bitter experience I would say dont' call just because your waters have broken. They wil tell you to come in, adn then jsut leave you - possibly for a very long time, like a day or two if you are me. They did let DH stay, though, so they must have been busy.

Ok, that's ok then. Just wanted to make sure I wouldn't get into trouble for leaving in until later!

Call when you are having regular contractions of 5 mins apart or closer and when they are lasting between 50secs to 1minute long.

But, don't go in then unless you are needing pain relief and tell them you are happy to stay at home.

The will probably want you to call them every 2 or so hours to give them an update.

If your waters break you can give it a few hours, but don't leave it too long because you are open to infection and they might want to monitor you.
