Elective C section at 39 or 40 weeks?

Consultants are suggesting that if I have an elective it will be at 39 weeks - are there any advantages/disadvantage for the baby in letting it "cook" for another week. If I go into spontaneous labour they will probably section me anyway.

Good luck wheely with your VBAC - i only stayed in 2 nights with my emcs and hope to stay the same this time round. Sounds like you have a good chance of VBAC, I have the same problems the first time round plus more complications. I'm dreading the recovery period post op with a 2 year old but on the plus side there are few long term complications from a section.

I had elective for medical reasons at 37/38 wks and DS was OK but had mucousy lungs and low blood sugar and was alot smaller than my other full termers, he also has been very irritable. Very stressful. I think if I had a choice I would have gone to 39+ weeks.

Thanks girls - I see the MW this afternoon so fingers crossed my BP is ok (its a bit erratic) and position is still ok (again a bit erratic) or who knows..... 39 weeks today !

Whats better a spinal block or epidural?

Do they give you a choice when you're having a C section?

Advise needed - very nervous :(
