How long before you don't hurt after a c-sec?

I had an emergency c-sec 11.5 weeks ago and it still hurts to push the pushchair/sit up in bed. I get pains on one side in particular sometimes when I'm not doing anything, I can't walk very fast without my scar hurting...it's not debilitating pain but it seems to be taking forever When will I be able to start being normal and even start running again?? Anyone got any experience they'd like to share?? I'd just love to be able to take my little girl out for a good walk...

I've had four sections and each one has been very different. With the first being the worst and the second one the best.

It took me a good 12 weeks after the first to feel happy walking anywhere as the strain on my scar hurt. The nerve endings sent all kinds of weird feelings to my brain!

On each occasion the scar has felt tighter on one side which caused pain when I stretched.

As long as you have checked its not infected/ inflamed I suspect all it needs is time to recover. Oh and also check your underwear isn't sitting on the scar - that can hurt!!!!

Good luck and if it doesn't improve see your dr....or have another baby via section and hope the next surgeon stitches are better!!!

Remember that! Poor you! It will get so much better.

Just to make sure - have you had your wound checked? I had a little infection in mine that made it tender. Had some antibiotics and it was much better [even with breast feeding].

Please be patient and take it easy. My health visitor said to rememebr that resting is not wasting time butinvesting in quicker healing.

P.S DD is 18 months oldnow and Ican now even think about doing it again its been so good.

tbh i can't remember how long it took to stop actually hurting but not much beyond 12 weeks i don't think. What I still find drives me crazy is itching! do you get that? Some times (16 months later) I want to scratch my skin off! Someone said that it is where the nerves are knitting together but really after 16 months? more like a garden bush is growing!

I found it really itched to start with, now it just aches all the time on the right side and hurts when I do anything requiring any effort. I did 'run' to the doctor's about a fortnight ago in the snow and it's been hurting more since then...maybe I should have left earlier!
I do hate the itchy/tingling though, feels so odd - nice to know it could still be there 16 months on, thanks estobi

It is different for everyone, I think. I also think that the less you do for the first few weeks, the more quickly you heal. That has been my experience, anyway.

I didn't feel OK with physical stuff - bending, lifting etc - for at least 6 months after my first section. i went 'back to normal' far too quickly, though.

I am 3 months post my 2nd section now and feel much better this time around after taking it completely easy for the first 6 weeks. Although I still have to be careful with lifting, I am doing aerobics, walking everywhere and running around after my 4 yr old, so OK on the whole.

I do sometime shave a day when one side of my scar hurts a bit - that side has always been the 'worst' side. I also get random itching sensations - always have done since my first section 4 yrs ago .

If you are in actual pain, go back to your GP.

mine was 9 wks ago today and virtually no pain here for last 2 wks despite running round after toddlers

I'd get it checked out to be sure you are healing ok
