Little lumps of mucous plug coming away across long period of time - what does it mean?

I'm 38+2 and for about 10 days now I've been having quite small, sometimes tiny and, on some days, no bits of mucous plug coming away. These lumps are clear and/or a little bit green (nice!).

With my last pregnancy I had a tiny bit of show on one day, a huge lump the next, and my waters broke the next day.

Why do you think it's coming away so slowly this time? Does it mean something or nothing at all?

Can you tell I'm impatient?

At 38 +3 I started having daily shows (never had any in my first pregnancy) - at 38+6 my waters broke out the blue and had DS2 in my arms within 5 hours! Hope it all means it is going to happen very quickly for you too.

When you say it's green it makes me think it sounds more like discharge TBH - my plug was more clear and snotty with blood running through it (hence the phrase "bloody show"). But I suppose you know what yours looked like last time... Why don't you give the midwife a call just to check she's happy with the colour?

If it is a show then sounds like you might be meeting your baby soon

Lotster, my show last time was green and had no blood - much like this one, except it's much smaller and bittier this time. It's jelly-like and different to the discharge I'm having too. I really hope it means it's not far away!

Dinkystinky, did your show come away in little bits?

Dinky I can't believe you! 2 day old baby and merrily posting away... I hope I'm as with it as you in a couple of weeks time

Lotster · 12/02/2009 11:45

(which is when I pop BTW!!)

B2b - sounds promising then!

I think everyone is different. My midwife told me that it can come away but the body just creates some more, so it can in fact keep coming for weeks. I think mine started at around 38 weeks and my dd was 5 days late - I never had a massive show - just little bits.

Astarte · 12/02/2009 14:47

means nothing I'm afraid, other than your body is gearing up for birth sometime in the near future.

I've been losing mine in bits since 38 weeks, have had 2 sweeps and am now 40+2....still no baby.

I'm resigned to 'they come when they come' school of thought now

Blob2be - my plug came away in bits - first clearish snot which I ignored, and then pinky shows for several days. I wasnt really expecting birth to come so quickly after the shows - Astarte is right that baby will come when baby is ready though!

Lotster - believe me I wasnt so together after the birth of my DS; its amazing what a nice calm peaceful birth experience can do for your energy levels!

so have you had your baby yet?!! Mine went in the morning and dd2 was there by tea time. hope you are ok

Hi. Is a Mucas Plug and Show the same thing, or different. I am having mucus/waterey with some pink today. Am in my 40th week. Is that a plug or a show. 1st timer, so have no idea what to expect..

blondebabe · 28/04/2009 18:36

i am 29/30 weeks and for the past week my mucous plug has slowly been coming away should it be coming away this early

Hawkmoth · 29/04/2009 11:37

bumping for blondebabe as I am having some thick greenish mucous occasionally over the last few weeks (now at 25) and wondering if that was my plug.

Next time I get some I'll stick it in a jar and take it to the Delivery Suite I think, as have had tests and not an infection.
