A friend of mine has decided to give Hypnobirthing a go for her first baby (braver than me )
Anyone got and experience or indeed can anyone recommend a practitioner in the Herts/North London area?

Did a course with Helianthe Rusken in Hampstead - she was great! There were people from all over north london there. Google her name and her details will come up.

BTW, this is my second pregnancy - have found the hypnobirthing course much more usefl in terms of prep for the labour/birth than the NCT classes I did the first time round...

I would recommend Diana Tibble in St Albans. Google to get her details.

I have just started my hypnobirthing course and am due my first baby at the end of April. I must admit I was a little sceptical before I went thinking it might be a little too lentilweavery for me but was pleasantly surprised to find it mildly scientific and more importantly it made complete sense.
They talk about the uterus as a muscle and in order for it to perform effectively you need to be relaxed and not divert blood supply away from the area through stress. THe course I am doing is the official hypnobirthing one which originated with Marie Mongon (sp?) apparently there are others. She can get a bit irritating on the cd that you have to listen to but otherwise I would say go for it. I am also doing the NCT classes (haven't started yet) as I'm a bit of a course junkie so hopeful will get the best of both worlds!

Sorry for rambling, don't live anywhere near you so sorry can't recommend anyone to try.

Hypnobirthing is great and worked well for us for a first birth. I have a friend who is a hypnobirthing teacher in Hatfield, she is a lovely person and knows her stuff. Contact her at [email protected].

Straight up the M11 in Herts.

I have just done a natal hypnotheraphy.

Its a lot cheaper than Hypnobirthing and follows similar principles. Prehaps the difference between natal hypnotheraphy and hypnobirthing is that natal hypnotheraphy is a bit more geared towards the NHS than giving birth in the UK.

I am due in April so I can't tell you how effective it is yet. I suggest that you get some CDs to see whether its for you before shelling out for a course.

I did my course in Ewell and really enjoyed it. Its about a 1 hour drive on the M25.

Reallytired I am very near Ewell and wondered if you could let me know a bit more about this course that you did? Mainy how much it cost?

Reallytired · 25/02/2009 18:20

I have posted on the other thread about the hypnotheraphy course I did. The course costs £180 and was two days. However the course fees do not include the cost of the natal hypnotherapy CDs. However you can get the Cds of Ebay at a good price second hand.

However you do get fairly comprehensive notes. Being able to control your breathing is key to more effective contractions and less pain. The course teaches you how to enter a state of deep relaxation, breathing massage techniques and effective positions for labour. It was also nice being able to ask questions about something that isn't particularly mainsteam.

The what is covered in the course is very different to what is covered in an NHS/ NCT class. I don't think its a subsitute for a conventional ante natal class. There were two couples including us on the course so we got a lot of attention.
