I had my daughter two weeks ago she is my 4th so it was a fast labour. I have a second degree tear. I feel so uncomfortable and really ache. Should I feel better by now?

I don't think it's unusual to still feel sore. What were you like with your previous births? Mention to your midwife at your 6wk check if you're still struggling by then.

Congratulations - mustn't forget to say that! I've had 2 kids (both boys) and my 2nd was VERY fast. I was lucky and didn't tear but did push when I shouldn't have at one point so felt pretty tender for quite a while!I think if it's only 2 weeks since the event,it's to be expected to still be sore...and maybe having 4 births makes things more sensitive. I really wouldn't worry but just mention to your midwife when she checks on you.

I had a second degree tear and felt grim for about six weeks. Then had aches on and off in the perineum area for about a year (if I'ld been walking around a lot, etc).

MrsTittleMouse · 07/02/2009 17:36

Two weeks is very early. I had a perineum the size and shape of a billiard ball at two weeks after DD2, and she was my good birth.
It's well worth mentioning at your 6 week check if it's still a problem - GPs often don't ask.

rubyslippers · 07/02/2009 17:37

i had a second degree tear and it took around 6 weeks to feel ok

i had plenty of lavender baths and arnica

2 weeks is a very short time ... agree mention it to MW if still feeling sore at 6 week check

Get a happy valley cushion - available from NCT to hire or via midwife/hosp. It inflates on either side and creates an area with no pressure - bliss!!!!

I had horrid tear and registrar decided to remove a barcolin cyst after the birth of my first so that he could sew me up properly and I was in agony for ages. Took codeine pills also! (Apparently OK even if bf??!!) Another good tip is to get some gauze pads, dampen them, freeze them in very thin sandwich bags and then put them in your knickers!!! I got through about 6 of these a day! Its horrid I know but the pain will eventually ease!

Good luck!

With all of mine (3) i has tears and it takes a good month to heal. My 3rd was the worst. Only thing that worked for me was bathing twice a day in a salt bath. I know its hard to find the time but if you can for 5 mins it really helps.

AppleHEAD · 07/02/2009 20:21

thanks that is reassuring - feeding again so no punctuation
i was seriously considering moving into the bath permanantly
my second daughter was stillborn so when my third daughter arrived alive i was so amazed i dont remember what hurt and for how long...............lots of full stops to make up
sorry about no capitals

i think 2 weeks in was the peak of my pain as the stitches were drying out and it was hurty more - i would mention to mw on next visit just incase infected. I semi moved into the bath with my 1st - i even ate my tea in the bath!

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 07/02/2009 20:26

congratulations by the way

hi i had 2nd degree tear and loads of stitches internal and external caused by such a fast delivery, i was in alot of pain with mine for about 6-7 weeks then eased off but still sometimes ache if done alot of walking or standing along time. loads of baths helps.

MrsTittleMouse · 08/02/2009 14:55

That reminds me - I went in and had mt stitches checked by the MWs after DD1's birth, and I was told that as things heal it can pull on the stitches and make things feel worse for a while. As long as there's no infection, I wouldn't worry yet.

pooka · 08/02/2009 15:00

With my second, at about 10 days after (just before was discharged by the midwives) the midwife had a check for me as it seemed to be tugging, and she snipped a couple of the stitches which brought instant, wonderful relief.

I was very careful to get them checked regularly with my second, because after dd (my first) was born I was stitched too tightly which was noticed post-healing by my GP at the 8 week check. Ended up having surgery to rectify the problem so second time round I was "on the case".

AppleHEAD · 09/02/2009 19:34

Thanks so much I feel better physically and I think a lot of it is all the reassurance... Thanks everyone
Also I have moved into the bath and have given up on the idea of dieting until I can sit
