OK I feel a bit of an arse asking this. I'm 36+5 (or 37+2 by my dates). I have thrush which feels a bit better today though I have a pessary from the GP for tonight.

However I have felt rubbish all day and on and off this evening I have felt crampy in my lower back (like period pain). Could just be tired though, I'm exhausted. Also might be having some braxton hicks, never had them before, are they mildly painful?

With my first I had a show (day before EDD) and it kicked off from there, none of these cramps.

So should I do the pessary thing tonight, if I go into labour would it be bad? and should I not go to work tomorrow? Is it poss that my labours could be so different? I have too much to do at work and haven't packed my bag or sorted all the baby clothes into age sizes yet so it can't be about to start can it?

Please advise, Thank you

PS if I hadn't discovered mumsnet I would prob stop navel gazing and get on with some of the jobs or at least have this chat with my DH. So basically Mumsnet is enabing me to be a bit of a drip about the whole thing

Hi - just wanted to say that I am 38+4 with my second and I have been having cramps and also some full-on contractions for the last week or so. But with my first I wasn't even aware of braxton hicks and my first contraction was me going into labour. So they have been very different so far.

I panicked last week cos I had about an hour or so of full-on contractions and thought I was in labour, but it turned into nothing. My mid-wife said that because it's my second it's the muscles tightening up....

Thanks Iloveautumn. Perhaps I'm just looking for an opportunity to skive! I don't think labour is imminent.

I'm more worried whether the pessary would cause any probs if I did go into labour tonight.

Call your maternity unit or NHS Direct and check.

My labour with DD started with a few days of brown then red show - but really kicked off with period type niggles in my lower back (for me, contractions started in earnest about an hour later and DD made her appearance 6 hours after that). You might want to get that packing done, just in case...

Fingers crossed for you
