labour after shoulder dystocia

i just wanted to post my story for anyone like me who had a shoulder dystocia with their first birth and was wondering what to do second time round.
ds1 was 9lb 2oz and had a very traumatic birth. when his head came out he was blue so the emergency button was hit. he was eventually delivered after a hefty episiotemy, my knees on my chest with 2 midwifes pushing my stomach and another midwife putting her hand inside me to help him out. ds1 spent several days in scbu but luckily other than a few bumps and bruises suffered no after effects.
when i became pregnant with ds2 i was naturally nervous about labour. at first i was offered scans to check his growth but then told size is not alwasy the problem. then i was told i should have a c section otherwise i was putting my baby at risk. i was very anti c section as it terrified me but decided should do what was best for the baby and was booked in for 39 weeks.
anyway long story short i gave birth naturally at 37 weeks to a healthy 7lb 12oz boy with a 4 hour labour and no stitches.
i searched mn a lot when i was pregnant for info on shoulder dystocia and just wanted there to be a positive story for anyone else doing the same to show that you can have a great labour after a hairy one.
hope this helps someone!

so glad to read this!!here is a thread about what happened with mine. I'm due Monday or Saturday dep on whose dates to believe

wow funbags sounds so similar. felt totally the same about c section as knew it would be ds1 that would suffer the most. however if it has to happen it has to happen i guess.
did everything in my power to get ds2 to come early and luckily for me it worked. would def have been more nevrous if closer to dute date and not sure i would have been mentally able to labour properly. ds2 7lb 12oz 3 weeks early so would have beena whopper if on time/overdue.
have to say though i had this feeling i would never have a c section and knew he would come early. pma and all that. what is your head telling you? also when in labour shoulder dystocia actually never entered my head although dh was terrified and cried when ds2 born safely.
i really hope all goes well for you. i also think we are a bit 'looser' second time round and that makes a difference!

I'm still geared up to go for normal delivery. I had reflexology on Monday and have been much calmer and chilled out since then, the reflexologist is a fertility/pregnancy expert and also knows all about hypno birthing and had quite a chat about letting go of fear etc. I think that mentally I had been holding it in so to speak. My gut feeling is that this baby is not as big. I dont think it will be as late. I have been having few pre menstrual type cramps since Weds, which I never had with DD so something is happening. I've been told there is a one in ten chance of it happening again, and if it does a one in ten chance of some sort of injury, one in 100 are odds that I can live with. The other worry is that all the scrapping to get dd out was done with a full spinal in place, it will bloody well hurt to have someone's arm up fanjo fishing about for an baby's arm without, though at least that wont last more than a couple of minutes I suppose!...but thinking positivly thats not going to happen!!

hello.

Second labour rather different to first! Odd contractions on/off thru sun. 6pm they get regular, 6.30pm they start to hurt a bit. Phone hospital, agree to go in for a look in a while, have bath, get rid of everyone, set off for hosptial at 7.40, arrive 8.00 pm - only 3 cms dilated, but contactions quite fierce...by 8.45

me: waaaaahhh make it stop, I want drugs now!
mw: you're having a baby that will make it stop
me: when!
mw: soon!
me: uurrrggg how soon! how dilated am I?
mw: all thay way!
me: what??? I thought you were going to say 3 and a bit!!
mw: no, push!

8.59pm, and hour after getting there DS born, 9lb 4 oz, no stiches and nothing got stuck. Can't beleive the difference! Actually enjoyed my stay in hospital this time around, it was like a little holiday, all nice and quiet with no work to do.

Just goes to show, that a great labour really can follow a shit one!
