Home waterbirth for SPD?

Hi, I'm planning a homebirth with my 3rd baby. Because I've been suffering from SPD and because I find being in the water very soothing for my pelvis I was thinking about a waterbirth.
Did any other SPD sufferers out there go for a home waterbirth? How did you find it? Plus I'm wondering whether I need a big room to fit a pool in. Did all of you waterbirthers have huge mansions?

I have a friend who had SPD and gave birth in water each time.

I didn't have SPD and have also had two home water births (here in Belgium. You don't need a mansion - I have an average sized semidetached house - but you do need space to put the pool (usually about 1.5 metres in diameter) and for the midwife to move around it.

Belgian- I live in a fairly small flat and have managed to squeeze a birthing pool in there, with room for midwife...you just need to make sure your floor can hold the weight.
Good luck

Hello

I had spd with my last 3 babies and home water birth with the last 2 - it was very relaxing and the water meant I could get into different positions much easier than on dry land.
Had water (hospital) birth with dd2 and that was lovely too.
as others have said, you don't need massive house for the pool but enough room for Midwives to get around the perimeter of the pool.
good luck!

I had a minute flat for my first waterbirth, and a minute hot water tank too. The mw not to worry because she had even done a waterbirth in a squat once.

I've got SPD this time around and the mw actually recommended a water birth for this condition.

I had SPD with the birth of both DC (although the first time wasnt too bad) and had them both at home in our bath tub! The MW lifted/raised up my leg instead of spreading them IYSWIM which wasnt painful.

Hope it works out for you

I was in the water (in hospital) for most of my labour. Just had to get out at the last minute for forcep assistance unfortunately, but having had just water and G&A through dilation/transition I can honestly say the labour pain took over from any SPD pain.

If you have a birthing pool at home, and can be bothered with filling/emptying it, it can also be used for some relief in the last few weeks of your pregnancy too. Thought I might do this and watch TV in the evenings with this pregnancy, but OH not keen to fork out as I'm due a C/S!

Good luck.

Hi there

I am looking forward to a home water birth for DC2 and as I have severe SPD my mw is actively encouraging it. She told me the water is really nice and supportive and allows you to get into good positions that you couldn't on dry land with the SPD.

Thanks for all the lovely reactions. Looks like a home water birth is what I'm going to to for
