Think I might have a prolapse - do I mention it to the mw tomorrow or wait till my 6 week check?

Had DS2 (8lb 10 oz) 10 days ago. Felt like I needed to go to the loo all the time today, had a bit of a rummage and think I have a prolapse. Mw coming for last visit tomorrow - should I mention it, or do zillions of pelvic floors before my 6 wk check? It's not massively uncomfortable...

i would mention to her, i assume she will check you and refer to gp. pelvic floor wont work on 6wks time, my consultant said it takes time, everyone is different.

was kind of hoping I could ignore it for now

I would mention it but also go easy on yourself, these things take time. I didn't have a prolapse after DS but I did have a significant loss of muscle tone and went for some post natal physio at about 4-5 months after the birth. It worked really well and all went back to normal.

THe sooner you get it looked at the sooner you will know what is going on and whether it is a prolapse or not. If it is then there is lots they can do.

Good luck x

Just wondering AnybodyhohohomeMcfly, would you still have a natural birth again?

AnybodyHoHoHomeMcFly · 12/01/2009 21:03

Yes, in fact I am pg and planning a v birth again (not exactly natural as first time round I was induced and prob will be again). However if the effects on my undercarriage had been worse I may have gone for elective c-section second time round.

hello, i had prolapse after first baby, had other complications, did not see gp or any medical consultant for about 9m.
i recommend to see your gp, and see if you have any side effects, water problems, sorry to mention this but.
i had another baby after 2 years, birth was natural, all went under consultant, she recommended natural birth if possible, obviously would needed cs if there happened any other problems.
my youngest is 1.5 and waiting for prolapse removed and have bladder, pelvic floor recon surgery.
hope i did not scared you. but its always best to know.

thanks Anybody, just wondering.......

AnybodyHomeMcFly · 12/01/2009 21:25

No probs and Effie - seriously do be gentle on yourself and don't get all worried before you know what you are dealing with. I found it a surprisingly emotional thing to get to get a handle on but those specialist physios are great.

I posted a very similar question a few weeks ago although I was 3.5 weeks postnatal. I did go to the gp then and it reassured me that it wasn't too serious but also said that it was very early days (and even earlier for you). The GP reckoned that if things weren't right by three months then they might refer me on.
I would mention it to the mw but from my experience if nothing is done then it won't matter if it waits until your six week check. Do your pelvic floor exercises in the meantime (the only advice I was really given).

That's really helpful, thank you . I'll mention it and see what she says.
