Failed spinal during C section

Was numb when it started then from the first cut onwards I could feel everything gradually getting worse until they gave me a general. Doctor kept saying i had a lot of scar tissue from first section which explained why it was taking longer than usual. Does having scar tissue mean it's riskier? Anyone ever been through this? Is it ok to have another (3rd) when you've had a lot of scar tissue?

OMG Jic, you poor woman!! I just don't know how you coped with that, mentally or physically! You must be one tough cookie.

I can't say I know what its like as I haven't had one but my friend had an Emergency CS with DD1 and another very rushed ECS with DD2 following a failed VBAC. They went through the same scar and as far as she has said it was fine. A little more tender in recovery but not too bad.

Is there (just being objective) any way that the hospital failed to give you the correct amount of spinal and rather than admit this they blamed the scar tissue? I would be reluctant to think this is very common, but I would certainly pursue advice!

I'm totally in awe of you for asking about a third, it would put me off for life (bowing to you! lol) Good luck with the responses and I REALLY hope they take better care of you in the future. All the best.

I had an emergency CS firt time around, and an elective second time. Second time took much longer than they expected due to adhesions to my bowel and scar tissue from my first section. I was topped up several times as I could feel things getting worse. They sent DH out of the theatre as were going to give me a general but in the end thankfully did not have to have a general. Poor you.

Had a drain in afterwards as they had to clean up a lot of the scar tissue and wanted to be sure that it was healing internally okay. Consultant came around afterwards to say that if I got pg again that I would have to have a section and no way could go for a vaginal delivery. Tbh, I had just got my new baby so wasn't really taking it in. Said due to the "tidy up" they had to do and the scar tissue from the first op, that c-sections were my only option.

So from this would say that it is okay to go for a third c-section even if you have lots of scar tissue from previous ops. I'm ttc no 3 as well and if I get pg (a whole other topic!) will go for c-section.

thanks both for replies. yes it was pretty horrible going through that but i have a lovely healthy ds so it's worth it. not sure what happened really whether it was that they messed up or if it was just a reaction in my body from the anaesthetic. i would lobe another (in the future)! so obviously another section would be needed but good to know that they would do one even though i have scar tissue. thanks again.

This happened to my mum.

I have had 3 cs- not sure if I have loads of scar tissue but I did have some pain at end of pregnancy last time which they suggested could be adhesions. It all worked out fine.
