Did you get the "burning fire" when pushing out #3 or more?

I remember the intense burning like i was about to split in two when delivering dd1 i will never forget it.

when i delivered dd#2 she was smaller and i had only gave birth to dd1 13mths earlier, so it was not really painful to push her out (guessing i was stretched still).

im 26 weeks pg with #3 and its been 8yrs since i last gave birth and am begining to think about the birth etc..having a little panic about feeling the "burn"

Has anyone had a long time between births and not felt the burn?
Just wondering if i stay sort of stretched and flexible down there after all this time or will it be like giving birth for the first time all over?

thanks sorry if its tmi! x

Sorry to say this, but I had exactly the same gap between my second and third baby, and I'm afraid it was the most painful of the three. Having said that it was very quick and no stitches, so not all bad. Good luck - it's lovely having no.3 after a long gap, the older ones adore her /

CarGirl · 10/01/2009 22:06

It was too quick with my 3rd & 4th to tell!

LiffeyMermaid · 10/01/2009 22:07

I got the ring of fire with both of mine. delightful. I had horrible flashbacks for a while afterwards.

Pinkbump3 · 10/01/2009 22:32

Nope it still hurts like fuck. Sorry!

bluebread · 10/01/2009 22:40

Pb3, my older two were staying with friends the night dd3 was born, and the thing that kept me going through every single contraction was the thought of phoning them to tell them that their baby sister had arrived .

It is hard in some ways eg. evenings when I'm exhausted from a day with a baby, she's finally asleep but the older two need my attention for homework, music practice etc; endless school runs having to drag the baby along too; stopping them from fighting outside her bedroom door and waking her up...etc

BUT when dd2 said to me the other day when dd3 had gone to bed 'I love her so much and I miss her when she goes to bed - can't I just go in and look at her?' - it makes up for all the tricky bits.

CarGirl · 10/01/2009 22:42

my 4th slept through all the noise the others made! When I see my 11 year old with my 3 year old it's just awesome.

ClementFreudsGreatestAdmirer · 10/01/2009 22:42

and can i just say as the 'baby' of the family how wonderful it is to grow up with much older sibs who think you are great and cute and will do anything for you? lucky lucky number 3!

Cadelaide · 10/01/2009 22:46

CFGA, can I ask you, if you saw a squashed fly biscuit with a message written on it in green ink, would you eat it?

Pinkbump3, sorry about the hijack. I never had "the burn" with any of mine, and just a word of encouragement, DC3 has been an absolute doddle.

sweetkitty · 10/01/2009 22:47

I had no 3 6 months ago, I never felt the ring of fire was too out of it with the pain with the other 2.

DD3 was weird I was lying on my bed with the gas and air and suddenly I took the G&A tube out my mouth, opened my eyes looked round the room and calmly said "I need to push" I could actually feel her coming down, MW said OK push, pushed once and her head was out, cue MWs and DP shocked, second push her body was out. Hard to describe but it was as if she forced her own way out and my body expelled her not the big bear down and pushes of the other two, had a second degree tear though but it was OK.

Oh I only had a 2 1/2 year gap between 2 and 3 so not like you, good luck try not to worry too much about the birth but remember how great it feels afterwards holding you new baby.

KatB · 11/01/2009 00:18

I had burn but I only noticed it because the birth was too damn quick for decent pain relief. I had epi's for 1st two so was blissfully unaware of any burning

It was VERY quick, labored at home for a couple of hours thinking it wasn't painful enough to be proper labour. Went into hospital fully dilated and had her in 20 mins.
Painful but intense and the labour part was my best birth experience actually.

x

Oh....oh....a soulmate!

'fraid I can't stop to chat. DS must be about 10 by now and I feel I ought to bake a cake.

Stretch · 12/01/2009 11:42

No, I didn't with number 3! Did with first 2. Number 3 was a whole pound smaller than the 1st though, so maybe I was..ahem...bigger??

Pinkbump3 · 12/01/2009 20:56

Thanks ladies i hope this one is smaller and slips out!!

dd2 (dc4) slipped out easily. i dont remember the burn with the two boys but i was high as a kite and had an epi with ds1. definitely felt the burn with dd1 as only had gas and air. dd2 was uber quick- waters were broken at 4.15pm, nothing happened so was given syntocinon drip at 6.15pm. almighty contraction as the canula was put into my hand (not even connected to the machine yet) 1 hr 28 min labour and dd2 was born at 7.42pm weighing 6lb after no pushing at all- she really did slip out. having said that she was a full 1lb 1oz lighter than dd2 who was born 11 1/2 months previously

I had a 17year gap between my 2 DC.

My first was as painful as anything, I definitely felt the ring if fire.
First time, I had G&A, and pethidine, and was induced. Labour was 36 and half hours.

My 2nd, 17 years later I never felt the head crowning. I was still getting painful contractions at that point which overtook everything, so maybe that was why. I had no pain relief at all, and my labour was 48 minutes long. (Too long at the time, lol)

Ring of fire with all four DCs but at least you know you are nearly done when it happens!

Pannacotta · 20/01/2009 16:27

Water birth is the answer IME - though have only given birth twice.
Second was water birth and the ring of fire much less intense in the water (as were the contractions)

MamaG · 20/01/2009 16:27

No. But I had a CS

However, prior to the CS I felt much more in control than I had with the ohter two DC, I was managing fantastically if I do say so myself! I think I felt a bit of an old hand, my MW didn't know what to do with herself, she said.
