Hynobirthing CDs - recommendations please!

Just found out I can have a natural birth after being told following my experience of DS's birth that a c-section would be almost inevitable. AM really pleased but now have only 4-8 weeks to prepare after spending the past 8 months thinking labour was one thing I ddn't need to worry about this time!

Am anxious to avoid another massive tear and thought hypnobirthing might help with this. Can't afford to do a course so wondered if the CDs actually work and if anyone had any recommendations please?

Yes, I read this book _1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230591443&sr=1-1 and used the CD in the weeks running up to the birth. Probably started at around the stage you are at now.

My friend paid to do a hynobirthing course, but I couldn't afford to take the course myself. This was the book and CDs she bought as part of the course, and then lent them to me.

Practising hynobirthing definately gave me a confidence in my own body, and took away any fears. It also made me very positive about the birth. It also taught me breathing techniques and a technique to 'breathe' my baby down, rather than using strenuous pushing. (Though i must admit in labour itself i forgot to do it) But am looking forward to trying it next time.

The midwives couldn't believe how relaxed I was.

I'd definately recommend reading The Mongan Method.

By the way, you might want to think about perineal massage, which is meant to reduce the risk of tearing.

Can I ask if you've contacted any of your local HypnoBirthing practitioners?

I teach HypnoBirthing. Each year I offer a number of free places for those in genuine need, I also offer half price course places and payment plans for those who an afford to pay for a bit, but not the whole course fee.

Most of us practitioners are just mums ourselves, many of us - like myself - found HypnoBirthing due to a previous bad experience and then a wonderful HypnoBirth, so we're very passionate about it! none of us are particularly good businesswomen ;-).

I'd strongly suggest you visit www.hypnobirthing.co.uk and click on the find a practitioner list and then email your local practitioners and ask if they can help you for a reduced fee, I think you will be pleasantly surprised and honestly, no CD(s) or books will be as much help s a proper course.

The book posted above is good though and I can recommend these downloads to accompany it:

I too recommend the mogan method, i havent yet given birth (37 weeks) but am feeling very relaxed about it, excited rather than fearful.

Hi everyone - slight hijack here - I managed to buy the book you recommended above Lovely, but I bought it second hand from Amazon and didn't read the small print where the seller said it was book ONLY and that the CD wasn't included.

I still have the book (3rd edition), but am wondering whether it's worth reading without the CD? Can't really be bothered to buy it again just to get the CD. Anyone reading this who wants to lend it (the CD) to me to accompany my book? I will give it back! Am 30 weeks on Monday.

Thanks! Boobz xxx

Or is it just worth reading the book on its own and not bothering with the CD?

I have the VBAC hypnobirthing CDs - but I didn't get to use them as I got very sick and was admitted to hospital

So I'm about to put them on ebay unless you'd like to make me an offer for them? They cost £28 - there are two of them. Just a thought.

Good luck in any case

HohohoHOM- you could take a look at hypnobirthingdownloads.co.uk - a group of UK hypno practitioners put them together and are diff downloads (think 6.99 each). Have done course and read Marie Mongan hypnobirthing book (which I found really made sense to me) and listened to the CD (which is very american - massively prefer the english downloads). Key to it seems to be practicing relaxing and breathing which you'd get from the downloads too.

I found the Natal Hypnotherapy (www.natalhypnotherapy.co.uk/index.html) CDs fantastic
(picked mine up on ebay).
We also did a weekend course with a natal hypno practitioner which was really helpful, made all the techniques learnt through the CDs fall into place.
I was very fortunate and had a healthy and happy pregnancy and very relaxed labour and birth, I really think the hypno techniques helped all the way through. I started the 'programme' at about 12/40 but had a friend who started at 38/40 and thought it helped a lot with her birth experience. Both of us felt the hypnotherapy helps you to feel relaxed and in control. Good luck!

Boobz - the book has everything you need in it; the CD is just Marie Mongan giving you some birthing affirmations (which are in the book) and a relaxation exercise. I dont really like it as something about her voice gets on my nerves so have given it away to a friend, otherwise would lend it to you. Look at the downloads website I mentioned above which has similar recordings you could download yourself.

I'd agree with the mindful mamma recommendation. They sell them on their site for just £3 for each track. I heard a rumour that they had them on Napster and i tunes for 79p a download though...can't do better than that!
