ok, a quick question - DH is at a wedding 3 hrs away. I'm 38 weeks, pg with dc 2. ds was born at 38+2.

I've been having pains in my back for the last hour or so, that come and go. pretty mild really. I've also had a 'clearout' iykwim. I've had period pains and niggles, AND a clearout before, few days ago, which came to nothing, and I'm pretty sure this is nothing.
But do I call dh and ask him to start heading home, just in case? He planned to leave at 9ish anyway, so he'd be leaving a couple of hours early if I did..
I am annoyed with myself for even thinking about it but there is NO ONE else around I can call for help - all friends away with family for Christmas etc so if this were to be it I'd be a bit stuck!

i would give it another hour or so and see what happens, but then I did have 2 of my dc on my own without a midwife, as I didn't think I was in labour, so i am not the best one to ask! sorry......

What was your other labour like?

Do you know which position you baby is in?

With my 2 dd's their backs were to my back and all the pains were in my back, and I only had a few proper contractions!

It's horrible just waiting - especially on your own!

Good luck

Sorry If I was no help x

other one started with waters breaking and no niggles at all leading up to it.
This baby was ROA at last mw appt so will go posterior at some point during labour I've been told, but bump has been rock hard all afternoon (not that unusual, have had lots of BHs last few weeks) so difficult to tell, and no kicks for the last few hours to give me clues on position....

And you are going to hospital?

hannahlouhoo · 29/12/2008 19:24

Can you ring your midwife? Or nhs direct for advice? Then ring your dh to come home? If he is coming home early anyway will it matter if you ring him and ask for him to come home? If you need some support and are a little scared?

Where are you? When i was in labour my dp got drunk ! so i know how it feels to be alone in the first stages!

Spink · 29/12/2008 19:26

no, staying at home with any luck!
I've just called him as I realised this is something we can decide on together and we agreed that I'll ring back in 30 mins or so - if it seems to be building into something he will set off home a little early.
now I'm just annoyed there is nothing on TV and I've got no DVDs to distract me over the next couple of hours!!

hannah - I guess I could call the mw but reckon they would just say that all I can do is wait to see what develops. Even if I AM in labour it's very unlikely it would all be over in 3 hrs I hope!! if it wasn't for ds, I'd not consider him coming back early, but I worry about things kicking off and not being able to deal with the little one if he wakes up..
anyway. the pains haven't got worse over the last 1/2 hour so it is looking ok!!
