Horrendous night sweats - 3 weeks after birth

Not sure where to post this, but here goes...just over 3 weeks after birth, i'm still sweating profusly at night..in fact it's getting worse, and for the last week or so have been waking up soaking wet and with a soaking wet duvet etc. Nice! Have been told it's related to hormonal changes, plus your body getting rid of excess fluid from pregnancy, but this is getting silly! Does anyone have any experiance of this, when's it likely to stop?! Any alternative remedies that might help?

I only had realy problems with these after dc3 (have 4 dds) they went on for about 9 months but did get less frequent over that time. No idea why I suffered so badly that time.

ilovelovemydog · 27/12/2008 21:29

It's one of the things no one ever tells you!

I had it quite badly with DD, but less so with DS. Maybe because DD was my first?

expatinscotland · 27/12/2008 21:33

I never had this with my first two. But with my third, DS, it went on for about a month!

I still get like hot flushes every now and again.

AND, I'm still leaking milky fluid out of one boob nearly 8 weeks on and I'm not breastfeeding (although that's slowing down).

It made me think, "if this is what the menopause is like I really don't want it" I was bf so never went to the drs to see if there was anything I could take to help calm them down quicker.

Did a lot of washing of bed sheets!

expatinscotland · 27/12/2008 21:48

i could go for that no periods action, though .

SleighGirl · 27/12/2008 21:50

I know but it was 9 months of day & night sweats and the menopausal ones can last for several years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hkz · 27/12/2008 23:37

I had it too, it lasted about a month, I found sleeping on a towel helped! Not pleasant!

Astarte · 27/12/2008 23:49

Have had it for all 3 kiddies for about a month after the birth and I lost a lot of weight in that first month.
I'm pretty sure it's normal, but inconvenient nonetheless. I used to have to get up and change into clean pyjamas at least once a night

jadey24 · 28/12/2008 10:24

I had this really bad for about 7 weeks after the birth.
Was thinking of going to the doctors but then it stopped.

Since read that it is totally normal and its something to do with the pregnancy hormones leaving the body or somewhere along those lines

I almost ruined our leather sofa through sweating! I put a pink blanket thing down to "protect" it and I sweated so much that all the pink fuzz stuck to the sofa and was almost impossible to get off.

I also used to soak the sheets and duvet every night for about a month. poor dd was fed clasped to my soaking wet nightie with little rivers of sweat running down my legs.

urgh!

you have my sympathy.

I had a lot of water retention with dd and was told my body was just getting rid of it.

MildWest · 28/12/2008 10:42

Thanks everyone, at least it's normal and I'm not a total freak! Hopefully it'll tail off soon, and I can actually look forward to getting back into bed after feeding in the middle of the night!
