Arnica 200c - does anyone actually know where to buy it from...?

Hi ladies,

I have been searching the internet and can't seem to find anywhere that sells Arnica 200c tablets.

Has anyone out there bought some and if so could you let me know where from please?

Yeah it is a bit hokery pokery, but for 4 quid it's worth a go, even if it is psychological.

CoteDAzur · 29/01/2009 16:16

Only if you believe it will work.

Otherwise it doesn't even have a placebo (psychological) effect.

picklesmama · 31/01/2009 21:45

Every other piece of info I've read explains how the higher number is a higher potency eg here.

Which would explain why places like Boots sell 6c or 30c but you have to look harder to find 200c.

CoteDAzur · 01/02/2009 17:15

"explains how the higher number is higher potency"

Really? I don't see any "explanation" except "that is how it is", which is no explanation at all.

Do you realize what 200C means? It says one molecule of Arnica in 10^400 of water. That number is greater than the estimated number of atoms in the universe!

Just how gullible are you people?

Here is an explanation of why homeopathy is a con.

titmouse · 01/02/2009 18:27

con or not, I saw arnica tablets for sale on the Mothercare website earlier, they are on special offer too

CherryChoc · 01/02/2009 19:16

I took tablets after the birth and feel it helped, although I didn't have anything to compare it to, homeopathy seems to work for me.

What I don't understand is if it is a placebo how come it works on animals?

My mum bought mine, she got it from Boots.

CoteDAzur · 01/02/2009 21:10

Homeopathy works on animals?

No scientific study has ever shown that homeopathy works on humans, and to the best of my knowledge, no study has ever been carried out on animals. So what is the source of that claim?

There is a million award waiting for whoever proves that homeopathy works. And it's still unclaimed. What does that tell you?

notcitrus · 02/02/2009 12:03

What CoteDazur said. If you want '200C arnica', just use tap water - it's probably got more molecules of arnica in it!

However, many local pharmacies sell bottles of 10% arnica extract, for under 2 quid. Which felt soothing when splashed on my bruises, especially where I had a hasty intramuscular injection.

Lotster · 02/02/2009 15:24

I'd second all of Dinky's advice, you can also get Comfrey tea very cheaply and brew it to pour in to a shallow bath to help heal stitches.

Anyway, whether arnica works or not, for my forthcoming caesarean I won't be taking any chances and will take it from day 1. In my own humble experience I found the homeopathic remedy Borax cleared my breast thrush up almost immediately when the GP's remedies had failed and they all but gave up...they referred me to the B/F cousellor who recommended homeopathy.
Try not to touch the pillules, and get the sugar variety as the tablet form ones take ages to dissolve. You pop them under your tongue.

p.s. Homeopathic preparations are known to contain a small, very safe and often undetectable amount of the ingredient (this is the point, not some cover up or proof of their quackyness!) it stimulates the body's self-healing capacities by introducing a "suggestion" to the body, and allows, for one example, allergy sufferers to take in something they are allergic to in that tiny amount, to encourage the body to heal itself.
Rather like a vaccine but much more subtle from what I understand.

At the end of the day, different things work for different people. No-one knows everything.

CoteDAzur · 02/02/2009 19:11

What exactly is wrong with touching the "pillules", pray tell?

Lotster · 02/02/2009 19:47

Hi Cote,

its's because traditionally the pellet form of homeopathy has the remedy sprayed on the outside and can rub off. The tablets you can touch because the remedy is impacted in to them.

CoteDAzur · 02/02/2009 20:08

So the "pillules" (tablets) are OK to touch.

You realize there is no active substance in neither the coating spray of the pellets nor "impacted into" the tablets, I hope. If you are lucky, you might get a molecule in 30C or so but you won't even get that in a 200C dilution.

And re your previous comment: "Homeopathic preparations are known to contain a small, very safe and often undetectable amount of the ingredient"

No, actually, there is no such "known" fact.

The dilutions we are talking about make such a claim impossible. Homeopathy pills can't be guaranteed to contain anything at all, especially the higher dilutions. They are sugar pills, with no active ingredient at all.

And I'm sorry to say that your belief that one molecule of something will affect the body in any way (positive or negative) is a fantasy. I have had allergy desensitization therapy and those "small amounts" are still large enough to have an effect. If our bodies reacted to single molecules, we would be very badly affected by loads of nasties. Do you have any idea how many single molecules of different (toxic!) substances there are in the food we eat, the water we drink, and especially the air we breathe?

Lotster · 02/02/2009 20:19

Hi again Cote,

I understand you have strong feelings on the subject, you seem to post these comments many times on homeopathy threads I've seen.

Some people find it works for them though, including me with my particular case with breast thrush as I mentioned.

This lady wants to take homepopathy, it's her choice. A lot of doctors and midwives recommend it too.

I find your stance on this a bit sneering and bullying so if you don't mind I won't get in to it with you. I've posted alongside you on many threads, we had some similar (horrid) experiences and I've liked a lot of your posts. I really don't want to argue, so would appreciate a bit of "live and let" live on this.

CoteDAzur · 02/02/2009 21:15

I don't have any "feelings" on the subject at all.

I'm all for "Live and let live" - when people say they find prayer helps, for example. Do you see me on Religion boards, saying "Don't pray - There is no God"?

What I have an issue with is silly 'explanations' that don't even make sense. Call it a character defect, but those I just have to correct

Homeopathy is a system in medicine which is based on what is called the "like-cures-like" principle, wherein the substance that actually causes the symptoms in a healthy individual is used (in very low doses) to treat the exact same symptoms in a sick person. Thus, in homeopathy, remedies get more effective when they are more diluted: a 200C is more potent than a 6C dosage.

Just to give a "nursing" view on c/section or vaginal wounds post birth.
Keep wounds clean.Shower preferable to bath.Rinse the area with the shower hose, pat dry.Pour water over your "bits" after going to the loo.
Signs of infection are heat, redness, swelling and pus.Seek medical advice.
Don't forget your diet! A good nutritious diet will aid healing.Lots of lean meat, fruit and veg.
