All night I seemed to be in labour, now it is slowing rather than progressing, help!!

I know you must all be sick of my childbirth threads - but humour me - I have had no sleep.

To summarise: 8 days overdue, last night at 8pm I get my frist period pain style contractions, by 10pm they are coming every 7 mins and lasting 45 seconds, at 11pm I go to bed and this kills contractions for 30 mins, then throughout the night they come, sometimes very intense and causing me to cry out, sometimes milder, sometimes every 6 mins, sometimes every 12, not a wink of sleep, when I get up they slow down, when I lie down they speed up. If you had asked me at 3am I would have sworn baby would be here by now.

Since 5.30am things have started to fade. I am still crampy but they have lost any regular pattern and they are much less painful.

HELP!!!! I cannot have been up all night for nothing. What can I do to progress things???

artichokes - I did get some very worried glances when I went fot that walk!

Do you what you feel is best - walking worked for me, but maybe you need to rest.

Good luck!

jrsqueak · 18/12/2008 14:16

I would say rest. I went for a walk and had contractions - wasn't too bad as live in a little village but tbh mine seemed to slow down after a walk.

ChristMarsSleighdy · 18/12/2008 16:25

you should rest! Your body needs energy to work. Rest now you can walk later.

honeybunmum · 18/12/2008 19:45

Mine was a bit like that, stopping and starting/10mins apart and I tried to keep active to "speed things up" but just got exhausted. I told DH I was going to bed and he took dog for 15min walk, things suddenly started and when he got back, we had 10mins of fast intense contractions and DS was born in the kitchen. So you never know... but I think it will happen when your body and baby are ready regardless of whether you are resting or active, if you are knackered, I'd go to bed. It's horrible I know, I really feel for you, keep us all posted (((big hugs)))

v quick post, typing with one finger while feeding a new little person.

baby nina born last night at 10.30pm. weighing in at huge 10lbs 2oz. all home now.

acupudcute did the trick. at 3.30pm contractions stepped up a gear. agony. got to hospital at 4.30pm. dispirite to be told only 4cm dilated.

labour very painful so opted for epidural. but whole experience much more positive than last labour. managed to push her out with 4 pushes. no instruments. full story to follow.

breast feeding going well so far - touch woord. dd1 not adjusting so smoothly...

Fab news. Lovely name. I'm glad it went well and you had a much more positive experience this time (you've given me hope - second births can be better!!). Really pleased for you. It all sounds an amazing experience.
