Anyone had a c-section with the screen down?

Having a planned c-section early march (baby #1).
My very supportive MW just floated the idea we may want to watch.
She said it's getting more common and many couples find it quite lovely & interesting - as long as you're not too squeamish.
(We have watched some graphic c-section films with no problem.)

Would be really grateful to hear experiences from anyone who has done this. Thank you.

I didnt but then again it was an emergency cs and I was all a bit in shock etc. Not sure whether I would have wanted to see it though given the choice.

Personally, no way, but it's a very personal decision. I'm quite squeamish and wouldn't even want to watch it on film!

We did ask our surgeon how many people opted for screen down, and he said he had only known 2 people ask for it during the few years he'd been performing c-sections.

no, but i did see through the reflection on the light! wasn't too bad

MrsMattie · 17/12/2008 21:15

No, but they dropped the screen as my DD was born, which was lovely

I didn't, but wish I had, however we didn't know what we were having and I wanted my husband to tell me if we had a girl or boy, so we asked the whole theatre to say nothing when the baby came out, and the surgeon held 'her' up to my hubby and he told me we had our beautiful baby girl!

I still fill up with tears of joy at how lovely that was!!

One funny bit though, my hubby was supposed to take a photo of the baby coming out, but he pressed video instead so we have some of it recorded anyway, its a but gory but lovely all the same!!

Good luck, do what you think is best for you!

xx

I too saw the reflection through the light and I was fascinated....bit surreal!

Have a look at www.guardian.co.uk/society/2005/dec/03/health.medicineandhealth. I know that different places in the country are now doing this. A friend of mine said it was a magical experience.

Worth thinking about .

Mandy73 - I couldn't see anything as the angles were all wrong IYSWIM. However i have a lovely pic of it the anaesthaetist took on my profile if you are not squeamish. DH couldn't look hence why he didn't take it

ATadgeUpset - that must be amazing - i would have loved that but one step too far for DH me thinks!

Tbh without an elaborate system of mirrors I can't see how you could watch. They lowered the screen when ds was born to show me him etc, but apart from the overhead lights I could see nothing due to the huge bump in the way. The screen is a formality, in anormal section you would see nada.

BlackLetterDay · 17/12/2008 22:10

They asked dp what the sex was anyway, without me asking. They held him up and said what is it Dp, obviously he then said boy, they then whisked him away to be whatevered and then placed him on my chest.

I must be a bad mummy because I was like get him off I can't breathe (I was being stitched up and on syntocinol at the time lol) In my defence the syntocinol made my heart race and he was 9lb 10 oz, I really felt I couldn't breathe lol.

Thanks everyone, very interesting.

BlackLetterDay that's kind of what I was thinking.
