Early/Slow Labour?

Just wondering if anyone has experienced early.slow labour and could give come adivce.

I'm 40+4 weeks at the minute. I've been having pains since about 4pm this evening and they are still going. However they are like very strong period pains. (I've had period like pains in third tri already and these are worse) BUT they aren't contractions in the sense that they are timeable, and build up then ease away to nothing.

My bump is also getting tight and I lost the rest of my plug not long ago. (lost what I thought was all of it at 37 weeks, but I guess not!)

I was wondering if this sounded like early/slow labour to anyone as this is my first baby and I'm quite confused and frustrated at the minute.

Hiya,

It sounds like it could be the start of things. Try having a nice relaxing bath and if they arent too painfully, maybe get abit of sleep.

Good luck!1

try to doze between them. I had this with my first, started on Weds 4 pm and didn't give birth till Sat 11 pm. A few friends have had the same, very long so called pre labour as your body hasn't done this before. However your body can do it! It's important to get as much rest as you can. Tens might help..

I'm sure it's labour starting, you will be meeting your baby soon!

yes agree, do try and rest. i got the pains at 4am friday morning, didn't give birth til sunday ant 9am and stupidly didn't sleep at all from friday morning thinking i was going to give birth any minute! then after ds was born i didn't sleep for 2 nights cos he screamed everytime i put him down so went for about 4 days solidly. you can do it though and it will be fine!

Hi, totally agree with the above. Mine started at 6am on a Wednesday and little one was born Thursday at 7pm. Went into hospital at 9pm when it got too much to bear.

Also if you can, try and eat as it may be a while before you can get something decent to eat (I was starving all day on Thurs after not eating since wednesday lunchtime).

Hope all goes well and to plan!! xxx

Thanks girls. I slept for about 8 hours on and off last night. I'm in a lot more pain now but they are still not coming and going like contractions. I tried ringing my MW earlier for advice but she hasn't rung me back. I'm seeing her tomorrow though.

Just had a thought girls- is it worth me ringing the ward and just making them aware of what's going on and how I'm feeling?

It's not established labour or anything, but I'm worried that if things don't progress soon I'm going to be too tired to cope with actual labour. I had a very broken sleep last night and as the pains as worse now I doubt I'll sleep much tonight.

Is it worth telling them in case things don't progress quickly enough and I wear myself out? Or just wait until I see my midwife tomorrow? What do you think?
