How quick to dilate?

Am 37 weeks and going for VBAC. Saw consultant today and amongst other things he said they would be looking for me to dilate 1cm an hour once in established labour and if I fall behind that then they would do a section. Does anyone know how that compares with a 'normal' labour? TIA

1-2 cms on admittance to hospital told nothing was happening that night felt urge to push was told I was 10cms four hours altogether although I think they class 3cms as established but I could be wrong.

My labor:

38 week visit-3cm
39 week visit-5cm
40 week visit-5cm

40+5 went into labor. Came into the hospital at 8 cm, started pushing about 1/2 hour later.

I think everyone does it differently. It took me about 4 weeks to get to 10 cm. But there was no pain for the 1st 8 cm!!!

It can really go fast!

For me I was 2cm dilated at least week before the birth, then 3cm (& no contractions visible) at 11am on the day, lower backache at noon and hello motherhood at 2.30pm (fully dilated at 1.15pm).

This was my first birth, it would have been good to know it could go that fast beforehand.

With my Ds3 my MW examined me at 4:15am and I wasn't dilated at all. She siad my cervix was still posterior. I'd never heard of that before but I understand it as absolutley nothing has happen.

Zero dilation.

He was born at 6:45am the same day. My notes say 2hr and 16 mins for all 3 stages.
