Maybe I am being a little over anxious but am two days over due date and desperate to avoid being induced! Have tried the hot curry and sex (no mean feat at the moment!!) but baby refusing to move........ any ideas which might work?

Holding another baby worked for me. I was 9 days late when I had a cuddle with a friend's 3 week old. Must have kicked off the hormones!

micky · 11/03/2003 11:58

My first baby was 2 weeks late and I had to be induced. I wanted to avoid this with my second one (who is now 5 weeks old) and so I tried everything. I believe that what really worked for me were 3 sessions of acupuncture on consecutive days when I was 10 days late. This seems to be a "natural" way of getting things started and I went into labour just after the third session, despite my cervix being well and truly closed and posterior just before the session! I also believe that the acupuncture helped my labour which was much, much quicker and better than last time. The contractions were much stronger and more effective than with my first baby. I know that it is difficult to say what would have happened without the acupuncture, especially given that this was a second baby and things should have been easier anyway, but I firmly believe that it helped and would recommend it to anyone!

Raspberry Leaf capsules and a large glass of red wine worked for me. Anything happened yet Sam 29? good luck!

I was advised to eat a curry; I did just that and about 4 hours later my waters broke !!!!

Pimpernel · 11/03/2003 17:21

I went out for a curry when dd was a week overdue - didn't help at all, but I did enjoy it! dd eventually arrived 15 days 'late' (without induction) - I think she was just ready to come out then. My family has a history of going overdue, so I was prepared for a wait anyway.

Good luck, Sam29!

nipple twiddling. absolutely swear by it. worked for me and three friends. takes about three hours, do it on alternate sides. warning though it can bring labour on quite strongly

elliott · 12/03/2003 12:51

is that 3 hours of nipple stimulation??!

mum2toby · 12/03/2003 12:55

ouch!!

mum2toby · 12/03/2003 13:00

Ouch again!! 3 hours of nipple stimulation, then labour, then attempting to breastfeed!!!

Flick · 17/03/2003 12:25

a very hot curry and gin and tonics by the gallon helped my ds1 on his way!

jasper · 17/03/2003 20:37

Please can someone expain to me why you believe ANY of these methods started your labour as presumeably women only try them when labour is iminent anyway?!

Lollypop · 17/03/2003 21:39

My midwife suggested fresh (NOT tinned)pineapple. I ate one every day for 5 days before dd appeared on the due date. Tried it again with DS he was 2 days over due. Mind you both times had done rudies with DH the night before - its those lovely prosteglandins in the semen that do it.
If curries really worked wouldn't people that ate a lot of them be going into labour too early all the time?

jasper · 17/03/2003 23:08

I could make a very convincing case for creme eggs bringing on labour as I ate them by the truckload all three times

Ghosty · 18/03/2003 08:01

Any news yet Sam29? On the 8th you were 2 days overdue ... now it is the 18th so you must be 12 days over now ... ????????????????

wiltshirelass · 18/03/2003 16:57

I tried
Rasperry leaf tea
Caullophyllum(?) homeopathick stuff
sex
alcohol
curry
very long walks

and finally
bottom bumping down 5 flights of stairs with dd who thought it was very amusing

and none of it worked. Induced. My advice - assume you are going to be 2 weeks late, have a leg wax, pedicure, manicure and haircut, and don't pick up the phone to all the people who are calling to say "have you had it yet?".

Flick · 18/03/2003 17:03

I enjoyed the gin and tonics - made me forget how uncomfortable and cheesed off I was. And the curries - well at least they clear your system out if you know what I mean!!!!

bundle · 18/03/2003 17:07

I booked myself in for an induction and frightened my body into going into labour on its own (even if did end up with c/section after 24 hours of labour!)

haybeans · 18/03/2003 23:08

Hello everyone, my name is Hayley and I am new to all of this!! But was wondering if anybody had heard of using juniper oil in the bath to bring on labour? I am overdue with my 2nd baby which is as large as the first (9lbs+) and have been given another week before induction - again. I was induced with the first and dont really want to go there again!!
many thanks, look forward to hearing from you
H

Demented · 18/03/2003 23:29

Ooooh Jasper, that sounds like the best suggestion yet!

NQWWW · 19/03/2003 11:32

Welcome Haybeans. I don't know about juniper oil but anything's worth a go I guess. Especially positive thoughts - still a whole seven days in which you could start spontaneously so sit back and relax in that bath with a bowl of fresh pineapple and a cup of raspberry leaf tea

Katherine · 19/03/2003 18:46

Lavander Oil is meant to induce menstrual flow as well. They warn you away from it in early pg for this reason. Lovely smell and so relaxing might be worth a go.
