40 + 10 and My baby is too comfy where it is- advice pls

Hello all, first post from me, have been lurking and soaking up your wisdom for a while.

Basically after some opinions- am now 40 + 10 (first baby) and baby is showing no signs of coming out. No BH, no niggles, still wiggling it's bum about quite happily. Went for a sweep on Friday and scored a pathetic 1 on the Bishops score- mw thinks my "long back" (am only 5 foot 6!) means it has plenty of room to move and isn't in any hurry.

I'm due to be induced on Wed and am pretty apprehensive about it. Am in Scotland and the level of care during pregnancy so far (seen mw 4 or 5 times throughout and we only get a 12 week scan) makes me worry about going for an option that could potentially require a lot of intervention. On the other hand I don't want baby to stay in here forever!

Have tried all the old wives tales including 4 mile walk yesterday and still nothing.

Anyone had experience of a baby that seemed to be staying put and then suddenly made an appearance?

Both of mine were like that. They were born at 40+9 and 40+1 and before I went into labour I never had any niggles. Even 4 hours before ds2 was born my cervix wasn't doing a thing.

You don't have to be induced if you don't want to be. You can ask to be regularly monitored instead.

Good luck xxx

my dd was born at 40 + 11, i had no signs that she was on her way until right before it happened, in fact i had been to the pub all night, (not drinking!) got home and a few hours later i had had the baby!

feesbabyiscomfy · 09/11/2008 10:33

Thanks, good to hear- hopefully mine will do something similar.

Just finding it difficult to know what to do for best especially when medical folks just assume you will go along with what they want!

hi im the same 40+10 today with my 2nd, i was 10 days late with my DD so ive been holding out thinking it would be the same but today is the last day and ive dont feel anything yet! I have tried everything, walk, bumpy ride, curry and sex all repeatedly but nothing is happening apart from im exhausting myself. Had some really strong shooting pains everytime the baby moves for last couple of nights but once i sit down and relax they stop. Im due to be induced on Wed too and am dreading it as want water birth which is starting to look like could be out of question as i have to go to a much bigger busier hospital for induction not the MLU 5 mins away as planned, ive had two sweeps so far and the last one on Thurs the midwife said my cervix was almost ready and very soft and that all i needed was a couple of good contraxtions and id be away but how to get that going is now beyond me ive tried everything.

Im totally with you on your worries i hope we both go into labour before wed and finally get to meet our beautiful if not stubbon babys!!! I feel like im going to give birth to a toddler at this rate!

Good Luck

Thanks,

Makes me feel better knowing others have the same experience. Does say on my notes I have a posterior cervix, but mw says that can change so fingers crossed. To be honest feel a bit daft worrying about this- have been very lucky with everything so far, just beginning to get fed up I think.

Princess- hope things get moving for you soon. And I will try dynamite if I can get hold of some.

hi im still here, 11 days over today, my midwife did say that my cervix was slightly posterior and to the left so maybe that is the problem, im going to be cheeky and ring the midwife led unit and ask if they are not busy can i pop in for another sweep just as a last resort to try and get things going,
i was 10 days late with my dd and had a calm if not long waterbirth with G+A and was really hoping that this one would be the same but im starting to give up on that now. Ive just been to see my friend who was induced last mon and now has beautiful daughter and she has made me feel less panicked about the whole thing and more focused on the end result, finding out who's in there!, i think if i do get induced i will take all pain relief on offer just cos its there!
poor DP even got done for speeding taking me for a bumpy ride yesterday!
good luck

Hello, I'm still here too. I'm trying the tempting fate method now. Just went to new ASDA that opened today on my own as thought that would be the perfect embarrassing place to have waters break in front of school choirs, jugglers etc. Nothing ;-) Have planned to meet a friend for lunch and another for dinner tomorrow. And I'm going to wear nice pants! If that doesn't work I'm out of ideas.

Seriously though, also feeling a bit less panicked. Can't make the baby want to come if it's happy where it is.

All the best

I rang to see if they would do 3rd sweep but they said no, 2 should be enough so im giving up and just going to enjoy my last bit of time of reletive calm and quietness before baby no 2 arrives on Wed, (god do hope its all done by the end of Wed and doesn't go on for days! )

I'm about to have my first child and my due date was yesterday; I went to the hospital for a check and because my blood pressure was high in the morning, they decided to keep me there and monitor me for almost all day. By 2PM, the blood pressure was back to normal (I have my parents over from Italy and it was all a bit stressful in the morning with dad lost in the tube etc.. and that of the parents over is another story ) But the doctor said he wanted to book me for an induction on Wed and I insisted to wait a little as I really would like to go through the natural process and have water birth so then, we compromised that I will go 3 times this week to check my blood pressure and wait for 10 days before the induction and he then made a sweep after which nothing happened so far..... Had a few drops of blood coming out today and I went for a long walk but nothing! He is still in there cosy and happy. Will go in the morning to the hospital unless he decides to come out tonight!!
I have been told that the full moon helps bringing babies out!! Have you heard about that? And for all of you waiting... full moon is tomorrow

feesbabyiscomfy · 11/11/2008 19:09

Hi there,

I'm still waiting. Now 40 + 12! Hoping bubs will do something tonight, to avoid induction tomorrow night but failing that maybe the full moon will help things along.

Or maybe I'll a have wee werewolf- Was due on halloween :-)

Good luck x

Feel some changes but I'm still here too and they booked me for an induction next week...... Full moon has not worked yet!!!

princessdaisyboo · 19/11/2008 20:07

hi just thought id pop this on here, as its the only thread ive really been on! i did have to be induced last wed much to my dissapointment but it wasnt actually as scary as i was expecting, i was examined at 11am and was told that my cervix was still 1cm long and the baby was too high up so they incerted a propess pessery which is left in for 24 hours before you are reexamined then if labour has not started they move onto the gel and the drip, so i was gutted as i thought it meant i was in for a long slow labour but within half an hour of it going in i was having 50 sec long contractions a two min apart, they were a bit irregular so i wasnt examined till around 8pm and i was only 3 cm, they removed the propess and my labour continued on naturally which made the contractions regular and they were actually starting to really do somthing, there was no room in the labour ward and they wanted me to give birth on the maternity ward and they had to move people out of bed to get a 4 bed ward free for me, i eventually got some gas and air around 12.30pm and my waters broke and it intensified immediatly, they managed to get a delivery suite free just in time, i got up there and they let me get in the bath and i started to feel the urge to push after about 10 min, they wouldnt let me deliver in the bath as they suspected a big baby so i had to get out, the pushing was the hardest thing in the world but after around 10 min out he popped, little (big) Charlie James was born at 3.15am on 13th Nov weighing in a whopping 10lb 3oz, No stitches thanks to the really good midwife who helped him out, hes a whopper we could not believe his weight, So to anyone afraid of being induced its not always as bad as you hear.

Am also overdue and supposed to be having baby at home. Induction or going over 40 + 12 (currently 40 + 7) would mean having to go to hospital. Only thing left to try is castor oil (which i have just trawled the high street for) any thoughts??

trell · 20/11/2008 13:31

Just thought I'd post a quick note as I was in a similar position at 40+5 with dd who is now 7 weeks old. Apparently castor oil is a no-no as it just gives you an upset tummy and an hour on the toilet . I too tried lots of things to move things on but went into labour about 2 hours after eating one of those supermarket tubs of pineapple and a few cups of raspberry leaf tea. It may have been coincidence but a few friends had recommended pineapple so perhaps it's worth a try. Good luck!

nappyaddict · 20/11/2008 14:10

Hi,

Congratulations Princess,

I too had to be induced in the end, so plan for lovely calm birth disappeared without trace! Went for the liquid scan and it was low so they kept me in. That was at 4pm Wed, they gave me the gel, was 1.30 in the morning before they found me a bed and contractions started big style as soon as hubby went home for a good night's sleep. Isla Chloe finally born 20.38 on Thurs 13th 7lb 13oz, but she's been great since so I've forgiven her for being two weeks late!

One of the midwifes told be acupuncture is very good, but you have to go throughout your pregnancy for it to work properly. If I'm brave enough to do this again will definitely try it.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

Sorry to hear you had to be induced but glad it all worked out in the end. Many congratulations.

i saw the midwife on friday morning and she said i was 2cm dilated but still nothing appears to be happening! anyone know how long i can remain this way before labour starts? (only have a couple of days before they want to induce and i have to forget idea of homebirth).
