How long must I be 2cms dilated and oozing goo before this child comes out???

I'm so frustrated. Had a visit from midwife on Thursday and she did a sweep. I was 2cms dilated and ready to go, she could feel the baby's head through the fluid and everything! So I settled in for a restful day expecting to go that night.

Now it's Saturday night and still nothing! Have had a fair bit of mucousy discharge all day today and yesterday but not blood streaked. Had a couple of strong pains last night too but they stopped after a while. I've been sleeping like a log, went for a long walk today and was wrecked after so slept for an hour. And now I could go to bed again and sleep all night! With loo breaks obviously...

Am 40+3 now and went to 40+5 with DD. Can anyone shed any light on this? I feel indecent walking around half dilated!

Hi Flowermum, no particular advice, just to say I went 16 (yep, 16!!) days over with dc3 who is now 7 weeks old. You have my sympathies. Hope things move quickly for you.

You need to get busy on my list of things to do when overdue they are all things that various people i know say helped them go into labour. some are rather bizarre ...

masturbation
korean food (particularly kimchi)
suck your thumb
take a hot shower
eat papaya
sweeping
mopping
weeding the garden
cleaning the dishwasher out
laying a patio
sex 3 times in close succession. elevate hips after sex to coat cervic in semen.
swinging on a swing
blowing up balloons
listening to very loud music
star jumps
bouncing on a trampoline
wiping the walls
orange juice
rhubarb
doing handstands in a swimming pool
raspberry and cranberry juice
rotating their hips on a birthing ball
washing the car
meal of lobster and champage
fish and chips
swimming breaststroke
figs
mini golf
bowling
pilates
chamomile tea
tamarind tea
cinnamon tea - put cinnamon sticks and boil them into a tea
ginger
spunk mixed with yogurt
massaging the roof of the mouth??
mix ketchup, soda and bbq sauce and pour over chicken wings??

Oh for the love of everything good and joyous, what the very F*!??

Spunk mixed with yoghurt??? It is certainly true fact that ingesting the said jizz is more effective that deposting it per vaginum, I think however that is truly desperate measures!

frazzledoldbag34 · 03/11/2008 11:17

OMG! That's quite a list!
I take it you can pick and choose your activity, not do them all one after the other in that order......that would be totally knackering!

And (am just curious - not planning to do it btw)!- how is ingesting the jizz more effective than putting it up your fanjo? (Note to self : do not mention this to DH in 6 months time)!!!!!

Howdie · 03/11/2008 11:31

God only knows Frazz, someone somewhere did some research on it and apparently the prostaglandins were better absorbed through the gut than through the fanjo. That's certain not one randomised controlled trial I'd be signing up for!!

frazzledoldbag34 · 03/11/2008 11:39

Me neither Howdie!
although I believe overdue women can get pretty desperate.......luckily mine (so far) have been born on time. Oh damn, that's just jinxed it probably - will no doubt be a fortnight over with this next one

frazzledoldbag34 · 03/11/2008 11:40

Flowermum - best of luck. Fingers crossed for a baby very soon

lisad123 · 03/11/2008 11:43

with dd2 i had a sweep at 38 weeks, but like you was already 2cm, and contracting on and off for a while. I had sweep on weds, but she didnt arrive till saturday morning. BUT did get to 6cm in my sleep and had a VERY quick delivery (48 mins

Ohforfoxsake · 03/11/2008 20:37

and note Flowermum has not made an appearance all day on her own thread ....

Good luck if you are having your baby Flowermum!

Hello!!! Well apparently I have to be 2cms and oozing for 5 days before the child comes out!
Baby Fia was born at 4.45am yesterday morning, in an almighty hurry! I think the long walk did it. Obviously didn't try the spunk+yogurt as I'm not mental...
And she came out bloody fast too! Woke at 2am feeling a bit funny, rang midwife at 2.10, no contractions, lit the fire, woke DP, by 2.30am he was on phone to midwife as I couldn't talk with the contractions and they were on top of each other.
Midwife came out to the house and got me to turn round so she could check my progress and said oh I might break your waters in the minute... and they popped on her arm , DD2 was out a few pushes later!
Wham bang thank you ma'am! But then I did go into shock after with the whole drama of it... Coming round now and we're doing well, she was up all night feeding so is sound asleep now and I'm feeling mildly human again.
Best of luck to everyone else waiting, babies are so lovely it's worth it!
