with ds1 i rememeber the worst bit of labour was the pushing. This seemed like the longest part and when i was pushing i could feel he kept slipping back up. It was the worse feeling in the world. I was laying on a bed with the back up IUSWIM. Im just wondering if this always happens or was it the postion i was in? Would this not happen if i was squatting for example? I really dont want this to happen this time round but i am prepared this time!

Not real life but virtual life. Your first clue...if I said MCJ to you would it mak sense.

Thinking I am going to be labelled a nutter if you're not who I think you are!

mad4mybaby · 29/10/2008 09:48

MCJ?? erm doesnt ring any bells? Does it stand for something or someone?

Ha ha no I havent name changed - your son's name begins with H doesnt it. And you are a goddess?

thumblesswitch · 29/10/2008 10:32

I was on my left side and pushed about 10 times over half an hour - no control over it, no midwife there to interfere (induced and "not progressing" until I suddenly did!).

I had wanted to be standing up, anything rather than lying on my back but in the end I couldn't have stood if you'd paid me! But lying on my side in open foetal position worked well for me - no tearing, just a little graze.

Good luck this time!

mad4mybaby · 29/10/2008 11:29

thumble, did anyone support your leg? would have thought you'd need someone to hold leg up?

waiting - no, doesnt begin with an H and i dont think im a goddess in any sense! Must have me confused love!

mad4mybaby - I delivered my first baby on my side. My doctor tried to make me go on my back, I refused.

I remember them telling me to hold my leg back, and I refused because there were two doctors present, a midwife, and my dh, and I felt that as I was doing all the work and as they were just stood around watching, one of them could hold my leg back.

It was ok. Delivering on my hands and knees was far better for me.

waitingtobloom · 29/10/2008 13:30

Damn - was convinced but no im just mad...

thumblesswitch · 29/10/2008 23:40

mad4mybaby, for the last 2 pushes someone was holding my leg, but as I said there wasn't a mw in attendance at the time - it was only when I felt DS move down that I "suggested" to DH that he might like to fetch one as the baby was coming - when she arrived, she yelped "there's the head" and hit the panic button - another ninja mw leapt into the room and DH was told to hold one leg, one mw was checking DS was ok and the other mw had my other leg - 3 mins and 2 pushes later and DS was out. It was close!

Prior to that I had just been lying on my side, and when the big pushing contractions came I was just going with it cos it hurt too much not to - I don't think DH really noticed what was happening cos I wasn't making much more noise than in the previous 2 hours and my contractions never got closer together than 3 mins.
