So what is the content of midwife training?

I had some excellent midwives during my pregnancy and delivery, so this isn't supposed to be a criticism, but from reading a bit on here, personal expereince, and speaking to friends there seems to be a lot of evidence that women are still advised to be in beds during labour/ pushing when lying down.
What does the formal training say?

Look on the RCM website for the official midwifery stance on the issue of birth positions: here

Honestly I think the seeming enthusiasm for keeping women on the bed/lying down that we all know exists in UK hospitals is down to the work culture on the wards. Midwives don't have the time, the energy or the confidence to put their training into practice.

It's a shame really, for everyone.

I dont know the answer but I got the impression that it's easier for the midwife for you to deliver on your back on a bed. Probably not easier for the mother though!

Was just asking DH this an hour ago....

Isn't it easier for the mw if the mother has an easier time of it though?

I remember doing nct AND nhs antenatal classes and being told upright is optimal, only to end up at a mlu being made to deliver on my back

Is this a secret that everyone is keeping from pracising mws?
