Hi,

I'm now officially overdue- DS is feeling v comfortable inside, happily fidgeting, all vitals seem fine. (Being checked daily now)
I had planned a homebirth (water birth) and am very reluctant to go in for a hospital birth. (My last labour expereince has left "some" emotional scars from the time that we transferred in to the hospital after a prolong 2nd stage)
I cannot imagine having to go through labour without being in the water (which I couldn't be if I was induced) and am really afraid of the crash labour that an induction may bring on.
How long does one let baby decide when they want to be born?
Has anyone tried successfully any herbal remedies for inducing labour?
From discussions with the community midwives in my area they would still support me with a homebirth, within reason and if all seemed fine.

Congratulations to you as well Belgo! So that was no. 3 for you?

I've been advised to have next one, if we do have one, in the hospital, so I can have a managed 3rd stage. (though they also said that the PPH was probably due to the size of the baby.)
What did they give you to stop the bleed? Did you have to have a tranfusion- or did they stop the bleed in time?

For the homebirth did you have to hire your own midwife? My trust has advised that they can't support a homebirth for someone with a history of PPH. One of my friends wanted a homebirth 2nd time around, only to be advised that she couldn't, because of previous PPH- she is very upset. I'm curious how you got the support to have your little one at home.

Rosebud -My dd1 was also born at home, and I also lost about one litre of blood. I don't know if that's defined as a pph? My hb was 8.5 afterwards.

I still was allowed a homebirth with my third baby, and this time they gave me syntocinin straight after he was born to deliver the placenta. The placenta was delivered fine, but a couple of hours later I bled heavily- again losing about one litre of blood - and they gave me methergine to stop the blood loss and they massaged out various clots. That worked. They said there wasn't any reason for it - dd2 was just over 7lbs, ds was 8lb 7oz, so neither were huge. I
My hb was also 8.8 afterwards, and I could feel it. I think I bled after dd1's birth, but not so much.

I have independent midwives because we are in Belgium. They are highly experienced.

Fortunately we are happy with our three children because I don't think I could go through that again!
