How promising does this sound to you?

Had sweep at 40+1, she wrote

cervix posterior, 3cm long, 1cm dilated, vertex spines-3

I know she said it wasnt really favourable but not sure what relevance the posterior bit or 3cm long bit vertex bit means!!

Had loads of braxton hicks last night (about 4 hours) but not regular (every 3 mins, then 4 then 7 then 11 then 5...) Today I feel loads of pressure bearing down and have had the odd BH. I want my baby!!

Thanks

Well, it's not very favourable, tbh - but then you are only 40+1! Can I ask why you had the sweep so early?

As your cervix ripens and gets more favourable, it 'moves forward' - therefore posterior means that it hasn't really started to do this yet - it's still towards the back of your vagina, iyswim.

3cm long means that it hasn't really yet started to soften and efface, but since it's not your first that's not such a big deal. With second babies the cervix effaces as it dilates - with first babies it has to effface before it can dilate.

1cm dilated is par for the course with a second baby.

Vertex to spines -3 means that the head (vertex) is still fairly high (approx 3cms above the ischial spines which is a bit of the pelvis).

Sorry to be the bearer of bad-ish news but your other symptoms sound more promising. Walking, bouncing on ball, etc all will help.

thank you that makes sense now! Had sweep as had reduced movements although funnily enough they have picked up a bit again since sweep!

DS was 8 days late and i foolishly assumed that a second baby would be earlier than that, therefore about on the due date, silly me.

Thanks again for interpreting!
