Have you tried some salt in the bath. I found this helped and was quite gentle. Savalon antiseptic liquid sounds quite harsh for such a delicate area (although each to their own). Otherwise I would certainly mention it at your 6 week check. I had a 'graze' that was painful for a few weeks but I would say had 99% gone at 6 weeks. Pain after sitting for 20 minutes sounds quite bad.

DD is 4 weeks tomorrow and I grazed with her. I'm completely healed up now and have been for at least a week. i would definitely mention something at your check.

I hope it feels better soon.

Biggogglyeyes · 30/10/2008 11:40

no i havent tried the salt.

Biggogglyeyes · 30/10/2008 11:41

ive noticed this week that since ive put sudacrem on my sore bits after ive had a shower/clean up..the next morning the sudacrem is brown on my maternity pad......is that a sign of an infection??

I grazed having ds & it took about 4 weeks to heal. It still makes my eyes water thinking about it (ds is 3 now) as it stung so badly. Nothing extra to add to what's already been suggested - in fact wish I'd known there were so many different things I could have tried. I would say the cream being brown is just a sign you haven't healed yet but would definitely mention it at your 6 week check.

You could still be getting the very end of blood loss too (re brown colour) which I suspect could be the reason... Definitely mention at your check as I had a small tear and 5 stitches which was completely healed and painless by 4 weeks - hope it's sorted out soon.

Salt in the bath is a bit of a myth really as research showed that you would need to put about a kg of salt in the bath for it to have any effect. Agree with what's been said already about using tea tree/lavender oil. I have a big bag of mixed dried herbs that I usually give to clients post birth for any kind of healing - perineum/ section scar and all have reported excellent results and trauma has healed well. You need equal quantities of lavender, comfrey, callendula and echinachea (you can buy either online or from herbalists. Take a handful and put it in a bowl and cover with boiling water, leave to go cold and then put in a clean spray bottle and spray on the scar/stitches or put on a sanitary towel. You can also make a DIY bidet by placing a clean plastic bag over your toilet seat and pushing it down in the middle to form a dip, you can then place some of your herb liquid in the dip and use it to bathe your perineum. The other option is to place some of the herbs in a muslin and put it in your bath.
