Is it okay to use a mooncup for Lochia, rather than sanitary towels?

I know tampons are really a no-no, but does anyone know about mooncups?
Thanks!

I thought that you couldn't use them for 6 weeks after birth.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 24/09/2008 21:21

Your fanjo wont be able to keep it in i'd imagine! No offence an' all

morocco · 24/09/2008 21:22

ouch

cupcakesinthesnow · 24/09/2008 21:23

Oh gawd last thing I would want to do is be putting anything up there after childbirth. Unless you have a c section of course?

LadyMuck · 24/09/2008 21:23

Mooncup website confirms you shouldn't use anything internally for 6 weeks.

EachPeachPearMum · 24/09/2008 22:00

Oh thanks- sorry- had a emcs last time.... hadn't really thought this through had I?
(am crossing legs now at the thought of wanting to use a mooncup-eek)

I wondered if you'd had a c section last time!!
if you're wanting to be all eco, I can recommend fairy hammocks instead, although not sure if they would cope with lochia

EachPeachPearMum · 24/09/2008 22:11

What the hell is a mooncup?

Moomin · 24/09/2008 22:14

God, no! Even after c-s I was bleeding very heavily. My mooncup sometimes struggles with normal period so post-partum wouldn;t be good idea.

at idea of yanking at it to pop the suction off just after giving birth. Your insides will come out with it!

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/09/2008 22:20

lol at you even considering it!

EachPeachPearMum · 24/09/2008 22:40

Hey- come over here to laugh at me will ya?

definitely wouldn't recommend a Mooncup until you are sure that your pelvic floor is up to scratch. Any worries about any prolapse issues and I'd suggest leaving your Mooncup until you've got it sorted. I found that the suction was not helping my slight bladder prolapse, caused(?) by episiotemy and forceps.

And I won't have a bad word said about Mooncups

pooka · 24/09/2008 22:53

Lord no!
The very idea of putting one in and, worse, taking one out after childbirth . Makes me shiver.

EachPeachPearMum · 25/09/2008 13:32

Gah- I blame pregnancy brain- dunno what I was thinking when I asked this!

(Aren't babies delivered by the fairies, whilst you slumber gently on a bed of moss?)

No they aren't - the ladies on the August thread all know that they slide gently out into the world accompanied by gentle harp music and the cooing of doves!
