yet another question about induction

Ladies who've gone overdue, if your cervix was still thick, hard and shut tight like a clam at 6 days overdue, did you go into labour before being induced??

Hey Lollipop - I have been for more monitoring today, and it was much better. It is obvious now that the consultant yesterday was lying to try and panic me into agreeing to induction! Today's mw's were fine with continuing to monitor as they say baby looks fine. I'm 13 days over now, and baby is engaged, but lying kind of sideways.

AnnVan - Are you getting daily monitoring at the moment then? I asked if I could be monitored and the woman today said no, not until I am +14, and whilst I know people don't really think we're 'overdue' until +14 I just feel shit scared quite frankly, and I feel like they aren't taking me seriously. I think I am just hormonal, well I know I am, but I can't stand the thought of them leaving me like this until my placenta packs up and my baby dies just because I'm not +14.

Oh Lollipop - how far over are you now??
I'm being monitored daily now, so I have to go in again tomorrow, and until the baby finally decides to arrive . I really am starting to think I'll just end up having to be induced, because it really doesn't seem like it wants to arrive at all!
I don't really know what to suggest about the monitoring, I'm no expert on these things unfortunately. And here they insist on monitoring from 40+12 but I had no monitoring before that.
I'm sure your placenta won't pack up just yet. Apparently the risk of placental failure is really small, even after 42 weeks, so try not to get too stressed about it. Also the placenta doesn't fail all in one go, as far as I know, It gradually starts to degrade, and the amount of nutrition gradually reduces, so it shouldn't be bad enoughto harm your baby before you start getting monitoring. Hope that helps a little!

Oh, and I think we're essentially having the same problem - the 'carers' are focusing on policy and beauracracy rather than on the needs of the mother.

I was being particularly pathetic last night, sorry to have been so morbid, it was very tactless seeing as you are even further along than me (and coping a hell of a lot better I may add - Kudos!!!)

I am 40+10 today so I really don't have long to wait now. Both times that I have been told that I'm no where near giving birth I have had a bit of a bad day afterwards, not very good at coping with disappointment it seems! Yesterday I was fine until I asked her whether she would be monitoring me at all before my induction and she just blase-ly (argh, I can't spell that word) said 'not til you're 2 weeks over' and I just felt so fobbed off because of how flippant she was. I know that their policy is to have me in at +13 for the induction but they haven't actually been able to book the full on induction until +15.

Anyway, I have had a good talk with my DP and I've decided that I am going to speak with my midwife and see if she can see me in her normal clinic hours (Tues), that should bridge the gap until Thurs, then I'm going to go for the induction as this will give me a chance at a VB although to be fair I am not really that bothered about it, the idea of a c-sec and 'missing out' on the VB isn't a worry for me although I know a lot of women feel really strongly about it. I am going to go in prepared for the possibility of an EMCS, and I've told my DP to expect it too so that neither of us are shocked if it is how it ends.

How are you feeling today? How long do you think you will carry on before you decide to have an induction? I honestly think that it'd be a waste of time for me to do the monitoring, she isn't engaged at all, even though I've been walking round at 2cm dilated for God knows how long.

Just seen your post in the nappies forum AnnVan - How is it going now?!

AnnVan · 14/09/2008 15:54

Hey - don't worry about last night's post honest!! everyone has different worries and hang-ups after all! Well, everything's still pretty irregular so far. I had a couple of contractions only 2 minutes apart, but then sometimes there's a 15 minute gap, so who knows when it will properly get going??
I also got very upset each time the mw told me there was no change with my cervix etc. I was given another sweep at the hospital yesterday, much more vigorous than the previous two I've had (was not comfy AT ALL) I asked her not to tell me about the state of my cervix as that just upsets me. However, it seems that it has started to soften and dilate a little, which is encouraging.
Good luck with getting to see mw! Wow this was a long post

Write on a piece of paper (or on the cover of your notes) your wishes, and what you have agreed to. State that any mention of induction until a particular date you will view as harassment, and then refuse to talk to anyone until they have read your note.

Don't refuse the monitoring!
