I'm 6 weeks pregnant and feel awful, sick, tired, dizzy, sick, can't eat anything but am hungry all the time, sick, crying all the time, my brain has turned to mush.. did I mention i feel sick. Every waking hour of every day I feel sick. I wake up at 3am and feel sick.

A friend told me I should be grateful to feel sick she is 11 weeks and had a miscarrage scare (she still drinks coffee!!).

The thought of weeks ahead feeling like this makes me feel ..... you guessed it, SICK.

Am I being a brat, should I be positive and cheerful? Or should I just shoot myself now?

This is very much a wanted baby, but just at the moment I just feel SICK, SICK, SICK, not happy, not glad just SICK. Someone, somewhere convince me this is all going to be worth it.

I don't want to vomit
I don't want to vomit
I don't want to vomit

Oh the joy of not vomiting, no more hideous dry retching.

Let me tell you, I'm in one room pushing this one out and he's in the room next door having it cut off - or whatever the hell they do to make it fire blanks.

on a serious note, Vseager makes a good point. My work has suffered in the last few weeks and I havn't been able to tell anyone. I work on yearly contracts and if anything had happened (touch wood)and they knew I would get no work in Sept. Now at 12 weeks i feel able to tell, but thats another board.

So anyway I feel better and after my extensive research.

Sherbert lemons = good
refreshers = good
Wrist bands = very good
tape = good at first and later hearing it made me feel sick

ginger snaps = OK

Mostly you just have to get through it. I went for a scan yesterday and finnaly feel like I'm doing the right thing. I'm just ging to look at the now I've got 2 board.

I remember the joy you are feeling Snowy. It's so great you are through it, but feels like forever at the time, doesn't it?! Mentioning the foods you were okay with, I had completely forgot about my early pregnancy addiction to skittles and opal fruits (or starburst-whatever they changed their name too..)I could have eaten them all day as they took the edge off the sickness - in fact think I did most days! I was wondering if there was a conection to your sherbet lemon and refreshers in there as all are fruity, tangy things, hmmmmm curious....
Not that it's any good to you now, sorry Snowy, but if anyone's reading this who's going through it now get yourself down to the pick'n'mix NOW!!!

Spring · 09/08/2001 15:32

How soon did any of you have signs of your pregnancy? With my first I was over 7 months pregnant before I realised..........durgh.

We've been trying for our second for a few months now and after realising that my cycle is different each month I just don't know how long I can put up with the suspense.

Any ideas? I don't want to do a test yet as I couldn't bear it to be negative, I wanted to wait until I was either late or had some signs first but I can't stop thinking about it...arghhhhh

Oh, major oops. Read that as 7 WEEKS!!!

It's nearly time to go pick up dd and I'm going like a bat out of hell finishing up at work whilst popping in and out of Mumsnet. Something has to go (work of course) my brain can't cope!!!! I think I'd have realised by 7 months, especially with the awful DSP I had............. walked like a duck pulling a funny face grimacing in pain. I'm off now. The work lost out.

Winnie · 09/08/2001 15:57

Spring...7 months! Wow... I had an unclear result one day before being due on and a positive result on my due date both times...I understand your impatience!

Tigermoth · 09/08/2001 16:30

Spring, I knew within three weeks of conception. How? Firstly, my breasts hurt - and instantly got bigger. My waistline quickly followed suit, especially with baby number two. And once the idea I could be pregnant was implanted in my head, the first stirrings of that sick feeling began. The tests, done at 4 weeks, only confirmed what I already suspected.

Chairmum · 09/08/2001 22:38

My SIL knew I was pg with DS2 before I did!! My periods were irregular so being late didn't mean anything and I had no other symptoms. When we finally discovered the pg and told her, she said she'd guessed I was pg the last time she's seen me, which was before I knew. I told her that she might have had the courtesy to tell me I was pg! :-))

Kebs · 24/09/2001 20:51

I want to have another baby my fourth, but I suffer hyperemesis to the point where I am hospitalised through dehydration. Has anyone any reliable remedies for the sickness, that really work. any new info. on things to do, try, take???

Anyone with experience of bleeding early on and misleading preg tests. I had decided that I was NOT pregnant and 10 days after what I thought was my normal period (normally very light and short) I bled for 3 days (not at all like a period). I did a test which was positive, I rang NHS Direct who told me to ring my emergency doctor. I was worried I may be miscarrying. He told me 'my dear you are not pregnant, no test will be able to prove positive until after the 6th week after conception'. This isn't my understanding so I was even more confused and worried. Next day I did another test which was negative!!!! I've had no signs of pregnancy (I didn't with my first for over 7 weeks) but have had a low dull back pain which I thought was due to bad posture at my desk. Should I worry or wait and see what happens? At the moment I'm just about at my most fertile and although we are trying for a 2nd baby I don't want to risk anything. I thought these tests were so good that the doctor's don't even re-test if you have a positive result. How can you get positive one day and negative the next? Sorry if this is too much detail!!!!

Thanks Bloss. You're right, it's constantly on my mind and I'm swinging from believing I'm pregnant to not being. All the early possible symptoms can be down to so many other factors, bottom line is I've just got to wait a bit longer for either my next period or another test. I was very cross at the off-hand manner of the doctor and I know that a) you can have periods during a pregnancy (although rare) and b) you can test +ve very early, 2 weeks after conception I think. If I am pregnant I'm about 5 weeks. There I go again. I took both tests at the same time of day, although the +ve one was on Sunday and -ve on Monday, as I probably drink more fluids during the day at work, your theory could be right!

Good luck with your pregnancy, I have a friend who is now 23 weeks and soooo tired at the moment - in fact she is the one I posted about the bad morning sickness on a similar thread! It passed within a few days.............

Kebs · 28/09/2001 20:29

Spring, my first pregnancy was similar to yours, which I have to say, sadly didn't work out....I had two negative tests, one at 43 days, one at 50 days and then to my surprise, a positive one at 53 days. I like you, was convinced that something was happening to me and I was right, but as this was my "first" time, I didn't know what to look for. The tests that I used were Clear Blue and they are very accurate.
I think the reason this one was difficult to confirm was that the baby wasn't growing correctly and so when I did end up bleeding at day 56, the growth indicated only a 6 week pregnancy when infact I knew I was 9 weeks. As I said, sadly I lost the baby a few days later.
However, I have since had 3 children and each time used the same product to confirm my pregnancies and all around day 31 - 35 ie. very soon after my period would have been due. So i would say trust in your own instincts.
I also had early bleeding and I put this down to the egg implanting. Also, in my second pregnancy, I bled heavily, for 6 weeks for no real reason and still had a very healthy little boy who is now 4 years old. Good Luck.

Kebs · 28/09/2001 20:31

Bloss, thank you for the tip, I will have a look at the site.

emmagee · 08/09/2003 19:01

I was searching this for some handy info on morning sickness, and found I had posted something years ago myself! Oh well, I really need help this time, pregnant with number 3, unplanned - but then they all have been to some extent! Feeling sick ALL day, very dull! The only thing that seems to help is eating, all the time - so I am turning into ten ton tessie! Am tring to do healthy snacks, but sometimes only crumpets with marmite will do - several! i am in touch with a good homeopath, but no joy yet - any more handy hints?

Mooma · 08/09/2003 19:13

But emmagee, haven't you heard? According to reports in last week's press, morning sickness is all in the mind!

nursie · 08/09/2003 19:22

This might have been suggested already, but.... I found ginger biscuits brilliant for morning sickness. I took some everywhere with me, and even now that ds is 5 months, we still occasionally find a little bag of them in the car, in a drawer etc.
Only 40 calories each too, so you can have a fair few before feeling guilty.

emmagee · 08/09/2003 19:29

Mooma, don't! My Mum who is a wonderfully negative person at the best of times is being particularly unhelpful on this one, said as much last night! I could have screamed!

Mooma · 08/09/2003 22:38

emmagee - perhaps you should throw up all over your mum...she might believe you then

Ghosty · 08/09/2003 23:40

emmagee ... my sympathies. (Although many congrats for being pg!!)
I felt sick all day from 6 weeks until about 16 weeks .... and it was grim grim grim.
Like you one of the only things that helped was the actual 'act' of eating ... so as a consequence I have put on loads of weight ...
There were some other things that helped ... ice cold drinks ... squash with ice ... and fizzy stuff like ginger ale (the diet stuff) - again ice cold. Ice pops are good too ...
If you want to eat all the time try to eat healthy stuff ... toast and marmite is good ... cheese and salad sandwiches ... crackers (I like the water crackers) with cheese.
Oooh .. I love tinned fruit when I am pregnant ... don't usually ... so that is a healthy(ish) thing to eat.
Alternatively one thing that helped was lying down or sleeping ... I know that is easier said than done when you have other children - but that is where videos come in handy!!!
How many weeks are you?

tinyfeet · 09/09/2003 00:36

Emmagee, check out the thread called 'nausea'. I was really sick like Ghosty from 6 until 16 weeks. Everything Ghosty said worked for me. In addition, I liked lemon drop hard candies and mints. Just try to eat whatever you feel like eating, which seemed to constantly change for me. One moment I felt like eating cold cucumber soup, the next minute, I felt like eating cottage cheese. Also, if you can rest whenever you're tired, that does help a lot. I was vomiting alot, really miserable. Hope you feel better soon.

ninja · 09/09/2003 09:08

I chewed gum just to get that horrible taste out of my mouth and to stop me eating all the time - it might help and your breath will smell great!

mmk · 12/09/2006 09:35

I'm suffering bad sickness too. I've lost my temp job as I was so ill. I can't tell the agency why I didn't do my job well, as I'm sure I won't get another.
I had IVF, which means all our money is gone, and I'm on hormones too We are trying to sell our house to down size, and trying to sell our car. Nothing is happening, everyhing is going wrong.
I'm scared too, I was out of work and stressed in my first pregnancy, and the baby died of SIDS three days after he was born.
I'm sorry to burden you with this, but there is nowhere else I can go....
I'd really like to hear stories about how other people have survived worse situations.
The wealthy in laws will bail us out, but for that, they expect total and complete control of our lives. It has taken 12 years to get free of their stranglehold on us, I don't want to go straigth back to it.

bundle · 12/09/2006 09:40

I used to think of the sickness as a sort of positive thing, that it meant everything was Ok. I also carried bags of emergency hula hoops. Good luck, and I hope the sickness doesn't carry on for too long (mine stopped around 12/13 weeks)
