Just started bleeding really heavy 13 days post birth

It had stopped and was just slugy none smelling stuff for last 4 days, jsut now i have started very heavy bright red bleeding. its dripping, and getting contracting pains.

Any ideas? normal?

i had a c-section.

TMI warning: had a massive gush of blood. Fortunately was at the GP surgery when it happened, and saw the midwife who said that it's quite normal - usually around 10 days.

Not that anyone told me this!

I didn't have a c section, but would imagine it's things getting back to position?

Call the duty midwife if you're worried though...

Call doctor. Please. NOW!

I had a friend who almost died 14 days post CS with delayed haemorrage.

Please get checked out. If you have pains and bleeding, go to casualty if you cant get in touch with midwife or GP.

GP husband here concurrs! Get checked out please.

Update: dh says don't waste your time calling anyone. Just go to casualty. And let us know how you are later.

I have jsut rang out of hours, and spoke to doc and he said to se how it goes over night, and maybe go to my gp in the morning if no better!

I will keep an eye on this, and if i feel ill or things get worse later i will ring them back.

doc not concerned as i only have dragging pains, and not lots of pain.

i cant be that ill either, as i am sat here typing...

Get checked out asap.

See how it goes overnight.... So if you're unconscious in the morning then you should get yourself down to casualty eh?

I would ring your labour ward, ask to speak to a midwife, say your doctors is closed you were really hoping that they could advise you...

Have you been doing a lot? It's quite common to start feeling a bit more normal around this time and so start being more active, which can bring on a fresh flow of bleeding, the contracting pains are a sign that the uterus is responding by tightening up (good thing). But yes get it checked if the heavy flow continues and especially if you feel feverish.

Personally I wouldn't wait till morning.

"see how it goes" is, IMO, the response of a GP who can't be bothered seeing you.

It is most likely an infection or doing too much. But I would get someone to acvtually see you, if I were you.

Def call labour ward and speak to midwife. They are the experts.

Don't rely on out of hours gp who (with the greatest respect to other gps) may know nothing about post natal care.

agree with calling the ward...i called a few times after both births and they were always lovely.

Agree with above - always a warning if red blood not brown as red blood is new. Gushing red blood is not something that you should wait till morning for.

its eased off now, i am already on anti biotics for wound infection

if itstarts gushing again i will demand to be seen.

feel ok in self, but did feel icky at time, bu more due to yuckyness of it all.
